FL: Lauren’s Kids racks up six-figure donations via auto tag registration renewals

In January, Broward County car owners who received their auto tag renewal notices also got a special message from Lauren’s Kids, the nonprofit organization dedicated to preventing child sex abuse and founded by freshman State Sen. Lauren Book.

Inside the envelopes, colorful flyers bearing Lauren’s Kids logo wished vehicle registrants a happy birthday while segueing into an ominous stat: “Yet shockingly, 1 in 3 girls and 1 in 5 boys are sexually abused before their 18th birthday.” Full Article

She is a State Senator now. Could be a conflict of interest, unethical and a misuse of public office. Someone needs to complain to the State of Florida Commission Of Ethics. Additionally, she should be recusing herself from voting on any new sex offender bills that come through the Florida Legislature when it is in direct conflict with her NGO. How can she possibly be impartial in her analysis of any sex offender legislation?

What? So now DMV lets businesses and nonprofits advertise? I wonder how much it costs to advertise, i’d consider it for my business… might be profitable. It is for them!

To me, this is misuse of State documents!

“Yet shockingly, 1 in 3 girls and 1 in 5 boys are sexually abused before their 18th birthday.”

Yet, only 10% are abused by strangers.

“But there is hope — 95 percent of abuse is preventable through awareness and education. Celebrate your birthday by donating to the Lauren’s Kids foundation and honor the kids in your life.”

Who are they educating when the abuser is in the child’s circle?

….

Nothing like “junk mail” in with your tag renewal notice.

Who’s being held accountable for Ms. Book being allowed “free postage” for her junk mail?

Accountable?? Please, it’s Florida! That State is so effed up, it’s beyond repair! The Governor is stripping prosecution cases away from (and drastically cutting the office budget of) a DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED prosecutor – the first African-American woman elected to the position – because she has stated that she will not seek the death penalty in capital cases. …. And he, the Governor, doesn’t like that.
