Children on Sex Offender Registries at Greater Risk for Suicide Attempts, Study Suggests

A new study led by researchers from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health found that children who were legally required to register as sex offenders were at greater risk for harm, including suicide attempts and sexual assault, compared to a group of children who engaged in harmful or illegal sexual behavior but who were not required to register. research *please* how long did research take to decide this or that!! 20+ years of registration in California and it took this long to finally get off *with conditions* stupid how a simple case of that romeo and Juliet situation (18 and a 17 year old) is called child molestation, according to a republican, why not throw in a Democrat as well.

  2. Counting the days

Children? How about every person out on list. You have to be in total denial if you don’t admit that suicide hasn’t crossed your mind. The Registry and laws associated with it have killed more people than the death penalty has. They should issue cionide pills with the conviction.

I’m tired of them claiming how the registry will make a minor feel for being on it. What about Adults!? We actually have it even worse. After all, we have to put a roof over our heads (not to mention our families). We also suffer from constant stress, depression, and a feeling of hopelessness. Kids haven’t yet experienced growing up when life gets tougher, while WE’RE living the life they will eventually have to experience. The same way a child can change and go on their life to do better things, an adult can do the same thing. People on the registry are the only people branded for life. Its gotten so out of hand that now they even want to make sure to try to harass/prevent you just for taking a vacation overseas with your family. I really am surprised there hasn’t been some mass shooting involving a crazed registrant. They’re doing their best to break us mentally.

I though this was supposed to save “just one child”. Whooops.

    Ummmm …. duh.

I guess the point of the research was to quantify how much. Without spending a dime on any research I can tell them that they will find the same thing with adults. Do people realize that children turn into adults? And many “children” are more mature/advanced than some 50 year olds, etc.?

Two things that I would like to see studied:

    1. Who supports the SORs. Personally, I believe certain traits are correlated with supporting the SORs and I would like to see what the actual reality is. I think these traits have a reverse correlation with supporting the SORs (perhaps in this order even): self-esteem, confidence, empathy, intelligence, success, altruism, and education.

    2. To what extent and how do people who are Registered change from being good citizens to being bad citizens, or perhaps more accurately … exhibiting anti-social behavior and less concern for others? Personally, I believe this is the real and main effects of the Registries, instead of actually protecting anyone.
