NY: Cuomo wants revenge porn posters to register as sex offenders

[New York Post]

Gov. Andrew Cuomo wants to criminalize revenge porn — and force the creeps who post it online to register as sex offenders — under a plan he’ll unveil in his upcoming State of the State Address, The Post has learned.

As part of the proposal, the governor also intends to outlaw “sextortion,” or threatening someone into preforming sex acts.

“The dangerous proliferation of sextortion and revenge crimes disproportionately targets young women and girls and causes harm and embarrassment that can follow victims their entire lives,” Cuomo said.

“This new legislation outlaws this horrific, exploitive practice in New York once and for all and will help provide New Yorkers with peace of mind both on- and offline.”

  1. SCOTUS SAVE US NOW

Maybe he should instead of adding to theh bloated list find a way to limit the list.. nah that be crazy…

    • TS

That doesn’t garner you any votes at election time unfortunately though your idea is spot-on.

    • Paul 2

This proves reg is punitive and used as a deterrent not protection of the public. Cuomo the homo has been running people out of NY for yrs Stay away from lib tard states they are dangerous.

  2. Alexo

Wait, you mean up until this bill it is legal in NY to threaten someone unless they perform a sex act for you?

  3. Facts should matter

“Causes harm and embarrassment that can follow victims their entire lives,” Cuomo said.”

Oh, that’s really dripping with irony considering being on the registry does the SAME THING to people.

Which just goes to show this is about revenge and hate, not justice.

    • Alec

Their argument would be, anyone on the registry has earned that harm and embarrassment. Which I can’t really disagree with; where my disagreement is, is the fact that you can’t simultaneously pick a segment of your population to hate and destroy, while simultaneously vaunting how wonderfully just and progressive your society is. You’re either enlightened or you aren’t. The SO laws are about codifying human bloodlust, nothing more. They encourage and promote the worst of our behaviors.

And, more on topic, this NY law is exactly more of the same. More bloodlust, more cruelty, more punishment, instead of putting all that effort into stopping these things from happening in the first place. I mean, imagine what the world would look like if all that effort went into stopping abuse before it starts? Stop people from abusing, but even more importantly, stop the cycle that turns kids into future abusers in the first place.

But it makes sense, when you think about it. All this hate, it gives politicians and the public an incredible amount of power. Why would they prevent the crime? They’d run out of people to hate.

      • Paul 2

They. are like big Pharma why prevent when we can treat.

      • Sam

So they are gonna track down like 90% of the free porn on the internet posted by exs and arrest then for it? They have websites that are dedicated specifically to that genre.

How to consider what is revenge porn anyway? Without it Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian wouldn’t even be famous.

The New York registry is already ridiculous enough with their level hearings not even being based on your current situation but at the time you offended which can be over a decade ago. They tried to make me out to be an alcoholic drug addict in 2014 when I had my hearing even though I hadn’t had a drink or even looked at joint since 2007. How do you make someone out to be a hardened criminal with only one crime on their record no history of drug or alcohol problems and not even a speeding ticket? Then treat my character witness like a whore even though she actually worked for one of the state senators and has a loving family and kids and a husband who is VP of one of the biggest banks on the world?

The NYPD registry department itself is full of great people who are extremely overworked already keeping track of god knows how many people with a staff of 14. They still use paper files for everything. On top of that most of those people who they keep track of are never going to be allowed off the registry even if they die or move out of the country.

What’s the point of a registry to protect the people within the state if you’re tracking people who aren’t ever coming back to it?

        • Sam

If you don’t enter that courtroom a monster for the hearing, regardless of what you’re really like they will make you feel like a monster during and after it.

      • Mel

Try being a victim of revenge porn and say that.

        • Paul 2 HB 631

@ me George costansa it was cold it was cold. LOL is that what happened? The reg laws are supposedly to protect the public so how would this protect the public?

  4. Paul 2 HB 631

This is ridiculous Just shows its for punishment. What is it for your girlfriend to check before she bends over for an ass pic?
