We are pleased to announce ACSOL’s inaugural conference, We Are All in This Together on June 16 and 17 at Southwestern Law School in downtown Los Angeles.

Breakout sessions will include discussions:

Preparing for a Tiered Registry – current bill and how ACSOL and ACLU are working to help its success in passing, and who it affects. The discussion will be led by ACSOL Executive Director Janice Bellucci

International Travel – Issues with international travel with International Megan’s Law, which countries you will be turned away, and current countries that will allow offenders to visit will discussed by Paul Rigney, founder of Registrant Travel Action Group (RTAG).

Housing and Employment issues – Issues pertaining to finding housing and employment with registrants and their families will be discussed by a reentry legal resource center Root and Rebound.

Family Issues – The impact of the registry on the family, the therapists who work with them – a panel discussion with several family members of registrants and therapists with have worked with them.

Parole and Probation Conditions – After a registrant is released from incarceration, he or she has many limitations on his or her life reflected in parole or probation conditions. Criminal defense attorneys Laura Arnold and Dylan Ford will address these important issues.

Juveniles and Adults on the Registry –Law Professor Catherine Carpenter will examine the legal issues and supporting case law to conclude that sex offender registration schemes for both adults and juveniles are unconstitutional because they impose impermissible burdens upon registrants.

LGBTQIAP and the Registry – the disproportionate number of registrants that identify as LGBTQIAP and how it being on the registry affects them will be discussed by Marty Weiss and other gay registrants.

The Registry and Autism – the effects of the registry on those who are on the autism spectrum will be discussed by Larry and Nick Dubin, a father and son who know first-hand how the registry impacts those on the spectrum and the families that care for them.

Certificate of Rehabilitation - who is eligible, and how to petition for one, etc. – panel discussion with criminal defense attorneys Chance Oberstein and Alex Landon.
