  1. nope

Does that mean they can’t even walk on the sidewalk or the street which is borough-owned property?

  2. It doesn’t work

Was this law proposed & passed to address a problem? Or was it done “just because?”

    • Dustin

Pretty sure it was “just because.” Can’t think of any way at $250 ticket enhances public safety.

      • David

Dustin & It Doesn’t Work: If you read the article, it states that the new ordinance is the result of a girl telling the mayor about being sexually assaulted as a young child. Yhe mayor immediately decided the best response to that one individual’s traumatic past would be to create this new ordinance.

  3. AJ

Can you say, “First Amendment violation”? Apparently they don’t understand that banning all RCs from all public fora violates Freedom of Speech and Freedom of Assembly. This will never survive strict scrutiny, especially in the shadow of Packingham, which reiterated the State’s burden.

  4. Eric

…but if you sell drugs to kids, rob stores, car jack people no problem, you’re still welcome.

    • It doesn’t work

Eric, that’s because those people aren’t “registered.”

  5. ExpatRFSO

This would be an easy win for Janice. Most of this story is behind a paywall. Here is a link with a little more of the story. https://patch.com/connecticut/naugatuck/naugatuck-bans-registered-sex-offenders-town-property

    • C

Sorry, you lost me at Patch.com. I wouldn’t click that link with YOUR mouse.

      • Really?

Then just go to Google News and, in the search line, type “Naugatuck”. Then you yourself can choose from which source you wish to read the story.

  6. Chris F

    Banishment?

Sounds like a Substantive Due Process, Equal Protection, and First Amendment violation.

It’s also ex-post-facto if it affects people who committed the crimes before the law takes place.

I can’t see the article to really understand what the details are.

    • Tim Moore

Isn’t it also the state’s jurisdiction to punish you for a crime violating state law, not some city, county or some self proclaimed avenger with a mission? With sex laws the whole separation of powers boundaries are so muddied as to be incomprehensible anymore.

  7. David

Here’s the website for the burough:

If you go to last night’s agenda, you can read the full language of the newly approved ordinance.

    • nope

      It was approved? OH boy!!

    • David Kennerly, There But For the Grace Of Dog...

Do you have a link to just that page? I was on here the other day and could not find anything about it.

  8. Mike S

Did I miss the part that said that this person that scared this other person was a confirmed RC and this is another case of inflicting unjust laws on all of us based on one of us?

Or is this normal John Walsh style of justice and punish an unrelated class of citizens for a parents neglect of their child?

  9. Counting the days

I sent email to the mayor referencing the article. His response? ” you are misinformed”.

    • Counting the days

He followed up with saying the article is wrong and that the exclusion is for only child protection areas(?). He says he has defended and advocated for offender rights. Yeah, sounds like you are really fighting for rights here!
So he is basically saying that if an article paints them in a negative light, lies! But if an article advocates harsher laws for registry, those must be truths!

      • Will Allen

Ask him why his ordinance doesn’t include people who have gone into areas like that and shot someone. I suppose that is less dangerous than looking at pictures.

      • Fake news+

OMG, I love this trend of politicians claiming “fake news” (i.e., anything that paints them in a bad light)!! It’s hilarious!
But if the media says something positive – albeit inaccurate – that’s authentic, true news!

  10. kat

    Gee-
Maybe registrants should refuse to pay taxes on town areas that they are denied access to!
If you can’t eat the steak, why should you have to pay for it!
