FL: Maxwell: Sun Sentinel Editorial: Gov. Rick Scott has no credibility on rights restoration

[floridaactioncommittee.org]

Gov. Rick Scott claims that he, not a federal judge, should determine how Florida restores the civil rights of ex-felons.

Seriously? That would be like having Bill Belichick design the Dolphins’ game plans against the Patriots.

Scott made this absurd argument Monday in response to the Feb. 1 ruling by U.S. District Judge Mark Walker that Florida’s Jim Crow-era system for how ex-felons can regain their rights is arbitrary and thus unconstitutional. A Scott spokesman said authority for clemency rests with “officials elected by Floridians, not judges.”

Man, I hate that guy. He will be out of the Gov office come this November. 2018. FL needs a Democratic Gov now more than ever.

    • John

Ask Rick Scott what he thinks about same sex marriage. Before he turns red and starts sweating, he will refer to the bible and Jesus and just leave it at that – no more questions, no more answers.

      • Bobby

LOL I remember that in the 2014 Florida governor debate. . .Oh please, he probably watches gay porn during Sunday mass and uses the bible to cover his smart phone. He is gone in a few months and hope he loses the senatorial race if he runs for it. That guy is a pompous prude and 2 years ago ranked one of the nation’s least popular governors.

    Floriduh!

Another school shooting. Maybe the people should spend a little less time and money chasing pervs to prevent crimes that may occur. We all wonder why the people act so unconstitutional, it is just the people following their elected leadership.

What are you talking about? you may exclaim! Our politicians do not condone murder!
Tell that to the people of IRAQ.

” Another school shooting. Maybe the people should spend a little less time and money chasing pervs to prevent crimes that may occur ”

That’s exactly what I tell the police officers that are assigned to me every time I have to register (both county and municipal ) 6 times a year. This recent shooting in Broward County(40 minutes north of me) was a mass shooting of course, so it’ll be nation wide news worthy, but shootings here happen every other day. Especially in the City of Miami district. Only way you know about it is to tune in local news. While they are looking at me ( just 1 record, My case is 11 years old and out of probation for 5 years now without any other incident, not even a traffic ticket and working full time ) There are violent crimes of all sorts breaking out everywhere from even people with an arm length criminal records. Yet they want the pervs instead as you say.

        Yup indeed.

And this wasn’t some ghetto either. Parkland FL is a very nice area and the high school ranks 36th in the state. I live near by in Coconut Creek.

Marco Rubio who gets donations from the NRA said that no gun laws would of prevented this tragedy.

Well, the same can be said of the registry.

It’s going to be an interesting FL election this year.

        • Dustin

Like it or not, Rubio and the NRA are right – more gun control laws don’t prevent anything. Gun control laws get tighter every time there’s a mass shooting, yet they still happen. More frequently, in fact.

Particularly concerning is the authority of “mental health professionals.” Texas has already given them the authority to detain. Nebraska appears to be in progress. In the wake of Parkland, other states are certain to follow suit. It’s a very alarming problem for RCs, considering public ignorance that all RCs are mentally ill and incurable and idiotic politicians who pander to them.

          Alex and TJ,

You both are correct to acknowledge that some acts cannot be prevented by law making. It is more important to win the hearts and minds of the citizenry. We are no longer taught to respect the constitution. The people can not depend on govt to protect them from everything. Such reliance is foolish.

IMHO the USA will collapse via the debt. You can’t buy friends. As our govt expands far beyond the two levels Fed&State established under the constitution the debt will too expand beyond our ability to pay it back. The cancer is terminal now the people merely refuse to acknowledge it. Denial plain and simple.

Instead the people demand short term feel good policies to the detriment of long loved LIBERTY!
