Regarding sex offender residency restrictions (Letter to the Editor):
Patty Wetterling, whose son Jacob was kidnapped and never found, posted the following statement on the Jacob Wetterling Resource Center website: “Because residency restrictions have been shown to be ineffective at preventing harm to children, and may indeed actually increase the risks to kids, the JWRC does not support residency restriction laws.” Full Post
The author takes a highly sensible and fact based approach. Residency restrictions do not work, so there is no reason to have them. She suggests other things that do work, and I think she is definitely on the right track. If only our politicians, and our voters, were as sensible. Everyone would benefit by adopting a viewpoint similar to hers.
Hi Avig;
Did you read the comments? Some of the people were calling the author an out and out liar!?!?!!! I suppose some people just do not want to see the truth; even when you put the facts right in front of them! Perhaps they fear having to admit they were wrong.
What always makes me wonder about these reports are the statements that say “many cases of child abuse go unreported”. My point is if they are unreported then how do these people even know about them? Are these statements made to sound credible? because they sound good? Where is their proof?
Like so many things their kind say there is ZERO evidence to back up their statements.
