FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — An extreme punishment for an extremely brutal crime. The man convicted of stabbing a drinking buddy after discovering a dark secret is headed to prison for 80 years to life.
A jury convicted David Barrera of first degree murder last month, along with Patricia Perez. The jury never heard this, but Barrera had five violent strikes before this crime. In fact, the judge said Wednesday it seemed like his whole life was leading right up to this murder. Full Article

Stories like this get me so riled up that coffee seems redundant.
The US Marshall sweep outed this guy on camera and he was murdered by this POS couple. The a-holes who broadcast this story should be held accountable as well. If any harm came to my family as a result of a “news” story I would personally hold those involved directly responsible. Reporters and their bosses should think twice before creating situations in which a Registered Citizen has nothing left to lose.
I’m thankful David Barrera got 80 to life for the brutal murder he and Patricia Perez committed. Patricia Perez’s sentence is a bad joke as far as I’m concerned. According to a study by SFGate “inmates serving life with the possibility of parole spend an average of 20 years in prison ¹, ” no matter how cruel and unjustifiable the atrocity they commit.
This particular case isn’t the first time I’ve read about bad results for the registrant after the police publicly expose them to their neighbors while doing “compliance checks,.” I find it odd the police departments doing these compliance checks/sweeps refuse to recognize the fact that their actions have the potential to cause murders, assaults and property crimes.
Potential risk to my well being and property is the reason I do not participate in compliance checks. The “penal code section 290-294 ² ” does not say anything about “compliance checks” that I have found, but it’s a lengthy and wordy document and would take allot of time to go through the whole thing, which I don’t have the time to do. I advise all registrants to no participate in compliance checks unless on probation or parole.
I think if the police want to continue these checks so it looks like they are doing something about “sex crimes” there needs to be special circumstance penalties for anyone convicted of committing a crime against a registrant. We all know compliance checks by law enforcement are like someone boarding up their windows so they don’t break in a storm after the storm; in other words, compliance checks do nothing to prevent sex assaults nor do they keep anyone safe as is claimed. The paradox is compliance checks have led to murders, assaults and property crimes, as well as the loss of housing for registrants and their families.

“He hasn’t been an angel, but just because you have prior strikes or you have a past doesn’t mean you’re guilty of this crime.”
I agree, but do you ever hear the media saying this about a registrant accused of a crime? I haven’t.
I do not understand why the courts have not been challenged on all of the dangers and punishment caused by registration. To the registrant and to family members.
And if I were related to the victim of this murder, I would be consulting the meanest attorney I could find.
WHERE is the ACLU??
The only people defending these sick individuals are molestors themselves. Are you seriously questioning the fact that these sick people should register? You seem more worried about THEM rather than the possible victims. It’s sad that these offenders have rights…
