Australia: Northern Territory to launch online public sex offender register

Convicted sex offenders in the Northern Territory will soon have their image, physical description and whereabouts posted on a government website.

Legislation announced today has been named Daniel’s Law after Queensland teenager Daniel Morcombe, who was murdered in 2003 by a convicted sex offender on parole. Although several details have not been finalised, it was believed all of the information published on the website about a sex offender would be publicly accessible. Full Article

Dear Land Down Under,

Don’t make the same mistakes based on emotion and hysteria that your friends on the other side of the world have made. It doesn’t work here, it won’t work there. It will cost you far more than you think. It will damage many lives without saving any. It will cost you millions of dollars with no upside, no positive results. It’s a bad idea, just don’t do it.

An American

My heart goes out to all the Aussie RSOs and their families who do not deserve the ensuing sh1t storm this web site will cause. The jobs that will be lost, the break up of families, the kids who’s daddys and mommys who will no longer take them to school or see them in plays or take them to football practice. What a load of crap this is. It’s akin to deliberately infecting a population segment with a disease, which of course, the government has been known to do from time to time.
