A federal judge has barred the media and other members of the public from attending a legal parley on a case that will determine the future of Minnesota’s sex offender program, a ruling that immediately raised questions about public access and open government. Full Article

Not surprising this is happening, even though it is highly offensive. I believe these links will explain much, like why the internet identifier bill looks like it may go through, and why many government officials are majorly obstinate, fixed and unyielding in their stance toward the largely manufactured “sex offender” issue, And why many court decisions from the highest courts in the land to the lowliest city counsel meeting have had Twilight Zone types of outcomes when deciding sex offender issues. I think many of us have recognized this has been going on for quite a while; I know I have. Still others may have trouble with reconciling this with the current views, or outright refuse to believe.

I think they want to keep their cash cow alive and make good on promises made for money.

Perhaps I’m foolishly optimistic, but maybe the judge has banned media and the public in order for those attending to have an honest, frank discussion of evidence-based facts, scientific findings, and academic research. Maybe, just maybe, he banned media and public in order to give lawmakers and law enforcement a respite from the hysteria that they themselves have whipped up in the public about sexual offenders (false high recidivism rates, stranger danger, etc.). I think the judge was wise to do so in this situation. (Though it’s ironic that they must hide behind closed doors due to a situation of their own making!)

In fact, at the adjournment of their conference, I think they should hold a news conference. They should state openly, “For many years, we have been extremely misinformed about this topic. In turn, for many years, we have mislead our constituents and the general public. This conference was intended to get to the truth, without prejudice and hysteria. The hysteria has gone too far. We need to return to reason, truth, and facts.” How refreshing such honesty would be!!!

It is now hitting the top US news in Google News right now, which means there is a very large part of society at least exposed to this story.
