Hello I am just completing a 10 year sentence of in Georgia. I am going to be without any parole, yet Georgia has sever living restrictions for everyone. I am currently in a T.C. saving money and thought about moving to California.I am unclear as to what life as an S.O. is like in California. Can anyone provide any insight? I have a college degree will I be able to work and live? PLEASE HELP!

Hi good luck with your choices. While I dont have experience with other States, I feel like I’m left alone pretty much. The only police contact I have is once a year to register. When I first moved to my new home, I had over the course of two years two home verification checks and now another three years gone by and no more since.
In general, I’d say you want to relocate to a big city, small towns everyone knows one another. Stay away from controversial locations–just no need to inflame a situation by moving next to a park or school. If California, stay away from “red-neck” areas, generally republican such as orange County. Stay out of the mid State areas that are agri in nature, farmers, ranchers, etc. Los Angeles County for the most part is ok i think
Agree with all of what David H says. Try to stay in the jurisdiction of lapd. They have too much on their plate to be monitoring you 24 hrs a day. It seems they give much more scrutiny to parolees and probationers. Stay out of Orange County. Look into Hollywood area.
In my experience Central Valley such as Fresno, Tulare are better.
Why?
1) Cheaper cost of living
2) You can live in the country
the downfall is job are harder to get.
Here’s some advice, DON’T move to California. I can’t wait to get out once I’m off parole

I also agree with David H’s remarks. I’m in the L.A. area and it’s been a very good place for me. Yes, I have to renew my registration annually and I have had a residency check every couple years, but no one hassles or harasses me. I live my life & I’m left alone. I recommend when looking for a place to rent, try to find one that allows dogs because a dog can provide protection and discourage people from bothering you (at least, that has been my experience.) Good luck!
(Of course, the negative thing about Cali is that the Registry here is for life, for everyone.)
Does anyone have advice for living in Ventura county the Camarillo area?
California is nice overall. I live in Riverside county and while I have to register once a year (started 5 years ago when we moved bere), the police have never been to my home and my wife and kids are able to live a more normal life. The only bad thing for me is driving to work out in la area (78 miles one way), but ive been able to get a job paying me a little under $30 an hour, so I cant complain much!
