Advocate group responds to sex offender letter

In response to “Sex offenders need harsher sentences,” of June 1: This letter is filled with emotion and righteous indignation but sadly lacking in facts or, in some instances, the truth. You cannot equate the offense of child molestation with that of failure to register. Child molestation is inexcusable and causes harm. Failure to register is a newly invented crime that very, very seldom puts anyone at risk. Full Article

Alexandria (im assuming Alexandria Va..)If nothing is done to the pervert that keeps fondling himself or failing to register… then maybe the above should GET OFF THEIR ASS and do something to change the law LOL…… next will be FAILING TO BREATHE ahha,,, what does a RSO do when he ends up in a nursing home with Alzheimers or dementia and doesn’t register ? where is the law to protect charges on a 70-80-90 yr old man that CAN NOT get to the police station to register as he CANT and is incapacitated… WHERE IS THE LAW ? Im waiting to see .. “Man fails to register as a SO and is in a nursing home and has something medical and cant…. or GUY is HOSPITALIZED…. SURGERY.. Fails to register…. slapped with 3 years… nowhere to be found… LAME…

If someone decided to start putting together resources for before hand redirection of eventual potential offenders and victims then in the long run there would be far less of both. Which means that management of former offenders (an erroneous concept to begin with) would require less attention and funding. Sex offenders don’t need harsher sentences, nobody does. Rather more community based initiatives need to be in place for anyone wanting help or just a place to answer their questions.
