Assembly Appropriations Delays Consideration of AB 558

During its hearing yesterday, the Assembly Appropriations Committee delayed consideration of AB 558 by placing the bill in its Suspense File. The bill may or may not be heard during the Committee’s final hearing on May 26. If the Committee does not hear the bill on that date, the bill will not move forward to the floor of the Assembly or to the Senate.

“As currently written, AB 558 would require the addition of information regarding thousands of registrants to the public Megan’s Law website with no corresponding benefit to society,” stated ACSOL Executive Director Janice Bellucci. “ACSOL has opposed and continues to oppose AB 558.”

In addition, the language of AB 558 is inconsistent with language in the Tiered Registry Bill (SB 421) which is scheduled for consideration by the Senate Appropriations Committee on May 15.

Make those calls!

I agree with Matt!
Let it be.

Guys, please trust the email/text action alerts.

Janice is the expert and sees the big picture. She monitors what is going on with these important bills, always carefully taking many factors into consideration as she works out the most effective way to fight or support a bill. Then she lets us know when to write and the kind of things to say, as other social action groups do.

I know you guys want to take action, but sometimes it can actually have the opposite effect of that which we desire when we don’t know all the factors involved. Please hold off on writing and calling on bills until she sends an action alert with specific instructions.

That’s a big part of “we are all in this together”.

An unfocused river is a swamp.

Hello, I will challenge everyone who post on here to find 2 things: 1- how the registry is punitive(punishment) 2-a study the government will trust that the sex offender recidivism is one of the lowest n it being under 5% and the rest crimes Start at 30% n above and send it to everywhere you Can, tv,newspaper, governor, president, just flood it everywhere you can, athere trying to keep us quite so we can’t or afraid to do anything about it, thanks
