In compliance with a law passed last year, the federal government is curbing the liberties of convicted child sex offenders.
On Wednesday, the State Department said it will begin revoking passports belonging to these individuals, forcing them to apply for a new document.
Additionally, the updated passports will include a message on the inside back cover stating, “The bearer was convicted of a sex offense against a minor, and is a covered sex offender pursuant to (U.S. law).”

I’m in too good of a mood tonight for some reason. All the hateful comments made me laugh.
I have a bucket full of words for those responsible for this tyranny. And another bucket full for those who let them be tyrannical. There is something really wrong with our government for it to ignore facts and become so non-objective. I know some of it is the education level, some is superstition and primordial fear.
Where are the checks and counter checks. How can a law be passed in a short amount of time using hear-say and take at least 10 times the time to remove or change using facts. They stomp their little tiny feet in tantrum when their rules are questioned.
You notice I use they a lot, have you ever try to find out who one of these individuals are? I mean who they really are and not just some title.
Lots of work ahead things will not change easily. False paradigms are tougher than real ones to crack. A real paradigm will respond to facts and truth. And why is this the job of the feds anyway?
This is just spite work and mob mentality retaliatory vengeance.

It still says nothing about whether I have to pay yet another $135 for a passport I just bought six months ago.
I can’t be the only one who finds the phrase “child sex offender” completely ridiculous can I? Every time I read “child sex offender” I think of a child doing something sexually offensive.
My passport was confiscated by my po. It’ll be many, many, many years until I am off paper and I’ll do what I can until then to get back an unmarked passport. Maybe by then All Felons will have a marking on their passport. Or Most anyway.

Is it me or does that statement not sum up precisely what we think the government is doing but what it would be loathe to admit?
“Curbing our liberties” does not sound like a regime of “not punishment” or a good-faith exchange of information between governments with no intention of preventing individuals from leaving their country.
The Daily News is saying precisely what everyone thinks this law is and wants it to be.

“On October 5, 1938, the Reich Ministry of the Interior invalidates all German passports held by Jews. Jews must surrender their old passports, which will become valid only after the letter “J” has been stamped on them.
The government required Jews to identify themselves in ways that would permanently separate them from the rest of the German population. In an August 1938 law, authorities decreed that by January 1, 1939, Jewish men and women bearing first names of “non-Jewish” origin had to add “Israel” and “Sara,” respectively, to their given names. All German Jews were obliged to carry identity cards that indicated their heritage, and, in the autumn of 1938, all Jewish passports were stamped with an identifying red letter “J”. As Nazi leaders quickened their war preparations, antisemitic legislation in Germany and Austria paved the way for more radical persecution of Jews.”
Parallels? How can you say that the treatment of American sex offenders is anything like the Nazis’ treatment of Jews? Oh wait…

If a registrant receives a notice that their passport is being revoked until it is changed, can he/she contact ACSOL with this information for potential litigation in a class action? If so, what is the recommended method? Thanks.

They said this wasn’t about blocking us from traveling, only about notifying foreign governments of our status. And then they start revoking passports… Actions speak louder than words indeed.
