FL: Duval County rolls out drivers license restoration program

[floridapolitics.com – 5/30/18]

Jacksonville Sheriff Mike Williams and State Attorney Melissa Nelson on Wednesday rolled out the ‘KEYS 2 Drive’ (Knowledge Empowers Your Success) diversion program.

The program will help those facing primary charges of driving without valid licenses, or suspended or revoked licenses, to get valid drivers’ licenses.

Sex offenders are ineligible for the program, …

Why is Floridah so FLJCKED up?

    • Facts should matter

Because of the police botching the entire Adam Walsh investigation some 37 years ago and the hate, shock and disgust still resonates from it. The cops still feel as though they “dropped the ball” and don’t want to look incompetent again, but they are and always will be (Parkland shooting). Most of the current lawmakers were children when that happened and are now reaping the dividends by continually exploiting this tragedy that happened decades ago by continually proposing and passing vigilante and hate legislation. Then you have the Books and the Lundsfords..

      Florida is hellhole.

      • David

@ Facts should matter: “….reaping the dividends…”, No, actually, they are reaping the suffering. With all these laws, Florida is abusing its own residents. I’m in Cali – I don’t suffer from their Draconian torture. It’s their own citizens who get nabbed for alley-peeing or nude sunbathing who will live on their Registry FOREVER. Nowhere to live. No Drivers Licenses. Cheers to you, Florida lawmakers! Beat your own residents and voters senseless! Apparently, y’all enjoy doing so! 😡

        • Facts should matter

Actually, Florida is a terrible place to live even if you DON’T have a criminal record. -_-

        @ Facts should matter

” Actually, Florida is a terrible place to live even if you DON’T have a criminal record. ”

Yet, many people move to Florida and has one of the most migration of any State in the union. With a population of 18.8 million according to a 2010 census, Florida is the most populous state in the Southeastern United States, and the second-most populous state in the South behind Texas and recently beating out NY state in population. 3rd in the nation only behind Cali and Texas.

City Of Miami Population Up 15.6% Since 2010, Sixth Most In Nation. Florida added 328,000 residents more than one third more than California. California’s growth in this decade had peaked in 2014 at more than 350,000, but has since dropped by nearly one quarter. Florida added 2.1 million new residents and has led California in each of the last three years. Florida has led in net domestic migration, adding 1.025 million residents from other states since 2010. ( That’s domestic migration alone )

Your experience with Florida seems personal, but for such a hell hole, people seem to gravitate to it… Lol

My family is in Real Estate there in Florida and business has been good.

        Cheers.

Many people move to Floriduh not realizing it is paradise lost. Even with all this net migration, a plethora of crooked politicians and lobbyists control the senate and legislature and even have insiders like Lauren Crook in the senate. Yes, she’s the daughter of the most powerful lobbyist in the state, Ron Crook. Ron has a personal hard-on for all sex offenders, using this hatred to try to assuage the guilt of knowing Lauren was sexually abused in his home, under his nose, for six years by an illegal alien female nanny he hired. So now he spews fact less vitriol about the stranger danger of sex predators (to Ron they are all predators) . The corruption runs so deep in Miami-Dade that they put him in charge of the homeless! In this position he has made being a homeless sex offender illegal, while Lauren continues to craft more onerous and punitive laws for sex offenders, wasting no opportunity to exploit her victim status.

And as “Facts should matter” stated, Floriduh sucks. Mainly because it is too hot, overcrowded, and governed by backwoods redneck politicians and inbred sheriffs like Grady Jugg who support a return to the Jim Crow South.

      • Jimmy

It was also never proved that Adam was sexually abused or it was a sexually motivated crime. John Walsh and Mark Lunsford saw an opportunity and used their children’s tragedy to further their personal interest and future for themselves. Even the Parkland shooting incident has disturbing details recently surfacing with the Broward County police involved. It is as you said, continually exploiting the tragedies. At times I even theorize that they all have blood in their hands by having to do with those tragedies. From Adam, Jessica and Parkland. Maybe I’m far reaching here or maybe not.

    Thank you ACSOL.

  3. CR

Oh well, what’s new? Registrants are excluded from almost everything.

    • TS

      @CR

That’s true, but what’s the reason this time? Safety? Baloney. This should be challenged and made to include RCs or be stopped altogether until it does. A dumb political stunt is what this is.

  4. Agamemnon

Policies like this only embolden the argument that the registry is indeed punishment and – thus – unconstitutional.

Each government program that excludes registrants further acts as evidence for future challenges to the registry.

    • David

@ Agamemnon: I completely agree! Keep it up, Florida. You are sowing the seeds for the demise of all Registries by clearly indicating they are endless Ex Post Facto P_U_N_I_S_H_M_E_N_T.

The answer to this is to become a “protected class of citizen”. How do we do that? What is necessary for SO’s to become a “protected class”?
