Is a life sentence for child sexual abuse just?

Arguably Chicago’s most notorious figure in the national Roman Catholic priest sex abuse scandal was committed indefinitely Wednesday to a state facility for sex offenders.

In refusing to release ____ ____ under strict monitoring, Cook County Judge Dennis Porter noted that the defrocked priest had never cooperated with treatment or even admitted to a problem. Full Opinion Piece

She wrote a good article.. the word is out! Recidivism for sex offenses is very low after release! yay! 🙂

  2. CASOMB Lies

The evidence that “treatment” works is not based solely on the Psychology Today article written by Karen Franklin. Rather, treatment’s inefficacy is based on this paper: https://www.bmj.com/content/347/bmj.f4630

Kind of strange when we also have CASOMB saying that treatment is effective, with the tiered law having a judge look at whether someone has “successfully completed” a CASOMB ‘treatment’ program. So CASOMB says ‘treatment’ is effective, when other evidence indicates not. There is also one study that I remember reading that showed RSO ‘treatment’ actually CAUSES recidivism. Anyone have a link to that one??

So are we supposed to believe CASOMB? CASOMB — as well as its SARATSO auxiliary — has peddled endless lies, conflicts of interests, and junk “sciences.”

I can see how sex offender “treatment” can hurt. Firstly, the “doctors” in the Sharper Future type programs treat you like shit. They lie to your face, tell you the lie detector is accurate (when it’s not), and promise complete patient confidentiality (when there isn’t any).

Then these Sharper Future type programs treat the most petty things as serious… like if you dare question the “doctors.” If you dare question these fake “doctors,” even in the most polite way, many see it as questioning their authority or not respecting them as people. Sex offender “treatment” demands almost an authoritarian-like structure… with the “containment model” — which is another absolute scam. Absolutely no confidentiality in all of it. So yes, when your sex offender “treatment” has no respect for people, I can totally see it as breeding contempt and anger. It’s not a therapeutic environment, so I can only see how it might hurt more than help many people. I suspect that much of the program is designed to destroy people so that they return to incarceration and continue feeding the mass incarceration, prison industrial complex, machine.

With SVP “treatment,” I can only imagine it being 20 times worse… with even more scrutiny than regular parole or probation. No wonder, after watching that ridiculous BBC “documentary,” so many SVPs fail. The system is designed to aggregate and hurt. There is rehabilitation if you trust the system.

      • Ummm...

When I was in Sharper Future, there was an “authoritarian-like structure.” However, there was no structured curriculum. Hollywood movies for two of the three hours was the “norm,” with sex scenes and any love-making scenes were fast-forwarded past. When I was in Sharper Future, I never had an individual session with a licensed professional; they were all interns without licenses. As far as the containment meetings, I agree 100% that they are a scam. All my private details — as well as other people’s details — were shared with sometimes as much as 30 to 40 people in a room (other parolees, Sharper Future, and CDCR crooks). Sharper Future’s report writing was akin to embellished police reports, in which it is their word against yours. You could do everything that is expected, yet if they find a “petty” reason not to like you, Sharper Future will essentially embellish and fabricate little details so that they are blown out of proportion. It’s unfortunate that scare quotes are commonplace in the sex offender “treatment” industry. But any “doctor” — even if they hold a license — who works for Sharper Future (or any program like it) is not a doctor. Of course, unlicensed interns should be held accountable too. But in the sex offender treatment industry, there is nearly zero accountability.

Also, at least the location I attended, the polygraph examiner drove a brand new Porsche. This should tell you about how much of a money making scam these Sharper Future like “treatment” companies are. It’s essentially a pyramid scheme. CEO and managers of Sharper Future are earning the big bucks, while the unlicensed interns are getting paid next to zero.

The article fails to point out some completely innocent men have been not only punished wrongfully first for a sex crime then had the punishment to increased ex post style twice by a FED.

    Public interest indeed!
