AZ: Sex registry bill defeated as senators protest failure to expand rights for sex abuse victims

[azmirror.com – 5/7/19]

Lawmakers argued passionately and the Senate president turned off a fellow Republican’s microphone as senators killed a bill expanding the number of people who are eligible to be removed from Arizona’s sex offender registry to protest the blocking of an unrelated bill that would give victims of child sex abuse more time to sue in civil court.

House Bill 2613, sponsored by Speaker Rusty Bowers, passed 56-4 in the House of Representatives. But it failed 11-18 in the Senate on Tuesday after Sen. Paul Boyer, R-Phoenix, led the charge against it, questioning why the legislature should take up a bill to help registered sex offenders while stonewalling his bill to help child sex abuse victims.

Not that big a deal. This bill (by design) wouldn’t have made much difference in Arizona’s registry anyway .

If they block a good bill to protest another getting blocked, that tells you how little interest they really have in serving the public trust.

“Statutes of limitations don’t exist to protect guilty people. They exist to protect innocent people,” Farnsworth said.

This is a fact that is being degraded by the old “save the children” siren call. You know every dictator and oppressor of the past has claimed their policies were to “save the children” and yet here it still works on 90% of the sheeple still. Elimination of statute of limitations, retro laws both criminal and civil, convictions without evidence based solely on witness statements. These are attacks on foundational protections for the innocent, as well as the guilty in some cases unfortunately, that are the core of our democratic republic and these radicals have been able to quash these protections in the name of “save the children.”

“It is better that ten guilty persons escape than that one innocent suffer.” Blackstone.

“It is of more importance to the community that innocence should be protected, than it is, that guilt should be punished; for guilt and crimes are so frequent in this world, that all of them cannot be punished….when innocence itself, is brought to the bar and condemned, especially to die, the subject will exclaim, ‘it is immaterial to me whether I behave well or ill, for virtue itself is no security.’ And if such a sentiment as this were to take hold in the mind of the subject that would be the end of all security whatsoever.” John Adams

Very intelligent men….

Good ol’ fashion politics in the center ring! Quid Pro Quo here that did not emerge as hoped for.
