Today, I talk to fellow therapist Taunya Gesner about her experience working with sexual offenders. We discuss what attracted her to this population and why she feels strongly about speaking up for them. We talk about therapist’s automatic bias about the population. We dive into my bias about how there is a part of me that thinks sexual offenders are evil. (Spoiler alert, they’re not all evil.) We discuss misconception the public has about them and how it’s incredibly difficult to find a good job and adequate housing because of their record. We also dive into how some folks go down the path of becoming a sexual offender.
So many people are making money off “sex offender craze” just shows the greed and lack of real morality in our society. The country has became a hater society, look at all the shootings? All the bills are passed by wealthy politicians, funny how Robert kraft got off the hook…….. I forgot money! We are like the African American’s of the early fifties!
A nice chat between these two. The registered persons dilemma is well described. The dilemma for victims is well stated and the trauma wrought through the legal system, that most certainly compounds harm. Public perception is described in a balanced manner too. Two thumbs up for this podcast.
What wasn’t discussed was the SOR as a plain database used to impose affirmative restraint. Nor did conversation discuss the plain indenture of human to database machine and upkeep. What tyrant wouldn’t demand unfettered use? None! The sex offender was the scapegoat for domestic electronic surveillance saints. And there are other collateral consequences to law making that renders human subservience to database machine. Keep in mind sec 230 US code liability relief and those who lobbied for it!
