A new Animal Abuser Registry in Louisville is expected to prevent pets from falling into the hands of people with a history of animal abuse.
Approved by Louisville Metro Council and administered by Louisville Metro Animal Services (LMAS), the registry is similar to a sex offender registry.
Anyone who lives in the Louisville Metro and is guilty of animal cruelty is required to keep their name on a list for two years after a conviction.
Pet stores, shelters or rescue groups are also required to check the registry before they allow someone to adopt or buy a pet.
But not if you beat up other humans? It doesn’t make sense.
Any kind of registry that indirectly shames and maligns an individual’s good name is an abuse of power and technology. Full stop. The claim that registries “minimize risk” is an unfounded and merit-less argument. It’s all about exploiting outrage and profiting from fear in an instant gratification society.
There is a necessary distinction to be made here between erecting a database ( of whatever) and compelling a person the maintain the machine database property by law. Will the registered animal abusers be compelled to update the governments registry?
Clearly this registry has an underlying intent. Affirmative disability!
So, are those on the registry blocked from seeing each other so they can’t meet up and abuse more animals?
