GA: Lawmakers seek sex predator tracking bill that’s constitutional

Georgia legislators aim to close a loophole that’s now preventing the state from using ankle monitors to track more than 400 sex offenders.

Some House and Senate lawmakers are backing legislation that would give judges the ability to impose lifetime electronic monitoring as part of someone’s sentence if a sex offender is deemed to have a strong chance of reoffending.

The proposals follow a Georgia Supreme Court ruling that it is unconstitutional for the state to require around-the-clock GPS tracking after the felony sex offender has completed their sentence. Full Article

    Sigh…

What about preventing more people from ever getting to the point where they are anywhere close to breaking any law? You know because GPS monitoring let alone for life, just like lifetime probation, parole, or supervised release, incarceration, and civil commitment among other confinement/containment schemes is far more expensive than actually addressing problems before they happen. Oh wait I almost forgot people massively profit off of treatment and monitoring rather than true problem solving.

Let’s see, GA wants to track a particular class of people for life that have already paid their debt to society and met all the requirements of the justice system, based on an unsubstantiated supposition that they will possibly do a crime at some unknown time in the future, and GA wants it to be constitutional. Ok, that’s going to be interesting to see play out.

I uh……I don’t understand the ankle monitor bullshit. If someone is an imminent danger to the public why tf would the justice system release them into said public. And if the Justice system is not broken, then neither parties should be obligated to communicate with each other further upon the inmates release back into society. Isn’t there a thing called “case closed”? Or is that just made for tv. People really Need to get a fucking life. So pathetic. I long for the day that our group rises against the Tyranny and gives them a REAL reason to fear us.

      I already have risen.

I’m dangerous today because of the Registries. People who support them are idiots.

      Sic semper tyrannis.
