International Travel 2020

In this International Travel 2020 post, the information is identical to the International Travel 2019 post. We added a new post for 2020 in order to keep the discussion manageable. Please help us by sticking to the topic of International Travel only.

From 2019: We have updated our main International Travel section. It features:

  1. List of Schengen Nations (allowing entry to registrants);
  2. Resources (including a CA DOJ Travel Notification Form); and
  3. User Submitted Travel Reports.

This post is linked from the Main Menu at the top of the site.

1. The 26 Schengen Nations (which allow registrants to visit)

As an agreement, Schengen was signed among the five out of ten countries of the European Union members back then, on the 14th June 1985. Under the Schengen agreement, travelling from one Schengen country to another is done without any passport and immigration controls or any other formalities previously required.

@Hostage, I’d say you certainly can not have a passport marking because the marking requires a conviction and states as such. When it comes to the green notice part I *think* you would not be subject to that either but that may still depend entirely what’s on your NCIC record because how the FEDs might view it can sometimes be entirely different from the state in this situation and sometimes it’s outright wrong. That record should give better information as far as how your international travel might be affected. You might want to consider requesting this – which costs $18. I have received my NCIC record and there is an error. Its a complex discussion to explain but it’s currently more advantageous to keep the error rather than have it corrected but is not at some time in the future. I’ll dispute it when that changes.

Since charges were dismissed, you have no conviction. Apparently TX is one of those states that puts people on the registry for reasons beyond conviction of offenses. (In my State, my lawyer couldn’t bargain down to deferred adjudication because it prevented the State from registering me. Dammit!) What sucks is many (most? all?) states have the catch-all of “if required to register in another jurisdiction” hook that will make you have to register if/when you travel domestically.

As for where to get your NCIC info, apparently you just need to ask for it from your local LE. See: https://legalbeagle.com/8182215-request-ncic-report.html I suspect you may also be able to get it via some sort of request to the Feds, but I’d avoid that slow, tedious route as much as possible.

Thanks for the info. I will investigate. Yep. Texas has mostly lifetime registration but are not AWA compliant per se. It is all very convoluted.

Hello,

I have some travel information that should be very useful.

I traveled from LAX to Istanbul Turkey in November with no problem entering the country.

-I was playing phone tag with the sheriffs department but was able to give the 3 week notice through voicemail to the police.

-no problem entering the country

– entering back into LAX airport control asked if I had been arrested. Escorted me to check my bags and didn’t bother to even look through them. Process was very easy.

Purpose of was to invest in a property for citizenship. I was told no information would be asked or informed to the US. After 6 months of purchase I’m eligible for citizenship with the option to have a name change on my new passport as told my by lawyer there.

Hoping with a new passport and with a new name will allow me travel more freely while making a decent investment abroad.

Hope this info helps. If you have the capital you can escape the prison the US enforces on us. I’m surprised this topic of citizenship by investment isn’t talked about more. As of now Turkey is the only option I have found in terms of background checks for citizenship.

This is great news, but with one caveat. Turkey is not part of the EU (Schengen). A Visa is required for Turkish citizens. Also for the US. So you might want to keep your US password active for visits to those two areas. Otherwise, Turkey lists 100 visa free destinations you can visit including all of Central and South America, and most of Asia, including Thailand and Indonesia (Bali).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visa_requirements_for_Turkish_citizens

Here are the required amounts for Golden Visas:

Required minimum investment limits for the citizenship program are any of these:

Real Estate Investment $250,000
Bank Deposit $500,000
Capital Investment $500,000

The fact, you say, that they don’t require a “background check” for prior criminal convictions in the US is, I agree, pretty rare, maybe unique.

James I would it be too intrusive to ask to name/contact of the lawyer who had this wonderful information? If you think so, I could give you my email and you could contact me directly.

@Daniel

Congratulations on a successful trip to Turkey! We visited there last year, but only half a day in Istanbul.

I had never considered Turkey as a permanent destination, but with the information you have supplied, we will definitely give it some careful consideration.

Really appreciate your post!

@James I,
My husband and I traveled to Turkey this year. I got some dental work done there and I remember calling the dental center several times to make sure we could enter the country because of the virus (and I was also worried because my husband is what Will Allen refers to as a PFR, or person forced to register, but of course I didn’t ask them). He had been to Turkey before with no issues.
He gave the 21 day notice to the local police station and we purchased our visas online. They were I believe $50 a piece.
No problems going to Turkey. They didn’t even flinch or care. When leaving the country we had to get a Covid test 48 hours prior to departure because we were going through Germany. Germany also did not care, but we were just on a 3 hour layover there.
Husband was stopped in secondary when we got to the US but it wasn’t really a big thing.
Turkey is wonderful- we visited so many the archeological sites and everyone was so nice and friendly. What an amazing experience!
You will love it.

Level 3 in NY (lifetime), left before IML was passed and haven’t looked back since. Just renewed my passport abroad and there’s no identifier – the US Consulate even called to ask for a copy of my Driver’s License for identification verification. It does get lonely sometimes and I do miss my family, but there are a lot of work opportunities abroad to make more than I would in the US, I have good health care and I have a social life.

Does anyone have any experience with travel to the Bahamas? Of course, there hasn’t been much international travel to anywhere recently, but my wife and I are going to be getting the vaccine next week (both over 75) and would really love to go somewhere warm.

The RTAG Matrix says no SO’s have been turned away, but then in a side note says “Maybe turned away, expect to be interrogated.” What’s that mean? I have written to Paul Rigney for any details he knows.

Hey all-

In the wake of all of these new travel bans, I am wondering if anyone has experienced any adverse travel experiences, especially returning to the US from travel.

I would be grateful to hear about your experiences, especially in light of the new travel bans and the new administration.

I am plan on moving to Ukraine! Has anyone gone there, if so did you have any problems or was everything good

Hi Everyone. My partner is on POR in MN due to a conviction of terrostic threats with a charge of kidnaping ( I researched this and confirmed- not that I judge anyone.. just good to know for things like travel etc). Anyone with a non sexual crime have trouble or ease. I am curious and want to plan our post covid trip. I love to travel and he doesn;t want to because he would be embarrassed being asked to leave. So I know Europe sounds like our best bet. But any countries in the past few years has anyone had good experience traveling to? Perhaps dare I say Israel or Mexico.

Has anyone any experience with Poland Travel. Have a contact there and as was interested but not listed on the matrix.

Question for you pros.

I know Mexico doesn’t allow registrants to enter when you fly in. But do any of you have recent experience crossing the border into Mexico? Specifically from San Diego into TJ?

I really miss going down there and haven’t risked trying in over 10 years.

Any insight would help. Thanks!

I will be moving to Ukraine for good and not returning to the United States. I have opened a business in Ukraine and waiting on my work permit so I can go apply for my visa d. Is anyone living in Ukraine at the moment?

I also have a friend that is looking to move to Hong Kong can anyone give tips/advice as far as getting A temporary residence permit to live there legally

Update! I was successful on opening a business and obtaining my work permit in Ukraine. I am a level one SOS living in Pennsylvania at the moment, but moving to Ukraine

I am a SO. Completed everything in 2018. I recieved my passport with no marking and I purchased my ticket to Frankfurt Germany for February 1st 2022. The stops along the way include Lisbon, Portugal and Madrid Spain. These countries are within the Schengen Union but I want to know if anyone has had any issues entering these countries? Thanks.

So, I hear they’re now removing sex offenders from planes for not having the identifier in their passports? This makes me nervous because I do not have the identifier and I am set to leave for Portugal on February 1st 2022. Thoughts?

After 20 years on the NYS registry for child porn possession and having my passport revoked 01/2020 I tested my new passport last week with a trip from JFK to YYZ (New York to Toronto).

Upon arrival to Canada, I was asked my purpose of travel, “getting my first passport stamp” was my reply. Canadian Border Agent said: “here you go, welcome to Canada”

I spent 2 hours in Toronto before returning back to the airport for my return flight back to NY. US Customs and Border Protection has a “Pre-Clearance” post in Toronto, and 14 other locations globally. I cleared customs for my first time ever NOT being held for secondary inspection.

Will I be able t travel to Philippines with tier 1 non public sex registry?
