CA: California Prison Guards Keep Jobs After Aiding Attacks on Sex Offenders

[prisonlegalnews.org – 11/1/20]

A series of assaults by a group of prisoners on convicted sex offenders was carried out with the consent and assistance of 10 officers at an unnamed California correctional facility. After an investigation, the prison’s warden determined that the actions of six of the guards involved were egregious enough for them to be fired, yet only four were let go before attorneys for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) halted the proceedings.

The attorneys argued that the allegations against the officers were substantiated only by the testimony of prisoners and that evidence of that sort would not hold up before the State Personnel Board.

A parallel investigation by the state Office of the Inspector General (OIG), which is tasked with overseeing the conduct of corrections department employees, concluded on January 10, 2020 that the evidence in this particular case was adequate to pursue the termination of the six guards identified by the warden. Inspector General Roy Wesley, however, expressed concern that it might set a dangerous precedent when it came to firing officers based solely on the word of prisoners.

Of course they haven’t. And if the news of this made it out to the general public, most of the comments would be how the guards should’ve been reward instead.

I have witness Guard miss duct 1st hand

I have witness Guard miss Conduct 1st hand when in county jail While a strip search for no reason One of the guy Inmate did not want to strip in front of numerous female guards thay drugged him out of the tank Out of sight of the rest of us and you could hear him being beaten By the guards and the blood curling screams As several officers beat him 2 weeks later they returned him to the tank covered in bruises swollen eyes This is not the only incident Of guard misconduct that I witnessed While incarcerated for 7 months

Interesting that inmate testimony is summarily minimized when in reference to c/o’s but relied upon in any investigation of inmates. Several times c/o’s told me they themselves were only steps away from being in our (inmates’) shoes.

California prisons no longer have sensitive needs yard so no more protective custody for sex offenders theses next 5 years are gonna get crazy.
So if you can’t handle prison life then stay compliant abide by all their rules and whatever you do dont be stupid and get caught and changed with failure to register because you’ll be sent back into these sexofender death camps

Good luck

This doesn’t surprise me. This happened to my husband in 2017. He was attacked by 6 officers in a CDCR prison. We tried everything we could to fight it but no one care or listened. They somehow managed to charge him and added 4yrs. Even though he was handcuffed the entire time they nearly killed him. It’s sad that our system is so corrupt and inmates with registered offenses get tortured while serving their time. Such disappointment and loss of hope for many of us and our loved ones.

There is no way to change the behavior of the thugs at the prisons unless we send them to prison themselves. Their union has a strangle hold on the elected professional liars. This has been true for decades. The thing you have to remember is that the thugs think of all inmates as less than human. And they think of RSO’s as less than that. I have seen this first hand multiple times. Any given warden can try to take action and make changes. And the moment he or she tries to do that, the lawyers for the unions step in and curb-stomp that warden. It would be harder to change the thugs and their behavior than it would be to change the laws around sex offenses in general. These people are savages. Most of them barely made it out of high school and make several hundred thousand dollars per year. All of this stuff that we hear about every few years about federal receiverships and changing the culture, etc., is total nonsense. It means nothing. Do you remember when they spent millions of taxpayer dollars to change their name? It went from CDC to CDCR. Nothing changed. I have been in those “classes” they offer to get an inmate ready to go back out in the world. To call this an absolute joke would be the biggest understatement in the history of the world. They don’t care. They don’t think inmates are people. They are more than happy to let sex offenders be beaten, tortured, or even killed. They truly don’t care. And they never will. The only way to make change in the prison system is to put them in prison themselves……and we can’t even get them fired. We don’t even know which prison this happened at. They are extremely well protected.
