Legislators began Thursday looking at changes to state law that would address inaccuracies in the registry that alerts neighbors that someone convicted of sex and/or child predatory crimes lives nearby.
The Louisiana Legislative Auditor found that the severity of the crime, called a tier, wasn’t accurate for 61% of the sex offenders tested. The information listed on the registry wasn’t updated in 21% of the cases.
That could mean the public often doesn’t know when a predator is within their midst. It could also mean that the miscategorized offender continues to be punished unnecessarily.
As if this was not predictable. Have we not been singing this tune for quite some time now? Sing it with me one more time: “The registry is inefficient, expensive, ineffective, a bureaucratic nightmare and serves no real purpose other than inflicting further shame and suffering on those who have already paid for their wrongdoing”. Perhaps someday, some elected official or a member of law enforcement or perhaps a judge, or even a “young career-minded opportunistic prosecutor” (‘redundant’, I know)…will have a moment of clarity…an epiphany..and actually say: “ya know….maybe we shouldn’t have a registry….it’s expensive…and accomplishes nothing….what if we just ended it?”…… Well…one can always hope. Keep the faith.

“Not incompetence or laziness” explains registry supporters to a t. Incompetent to actually do research to see their beloved project is a complete failure. Lazy because it doesn’t involve them when it actually does; yet are to stupid to care.
A stand alone sentence in the article:
“Local police use the registry when investigating sex crimes.”
Foe what? Nearly all new sex crime is committed by someone not registered. Of the few and far between that are committed by current registrants, what did the registry provide to the investigation?
Why does it seem like I’m the only one who questions what use the registry has for sex crime investigation? As far as I can tell, the only aid it gives to LE is funding to maintain it, which in all likelihood is misappropriated.
I agree it’s the same old song we all know what the registry is only used for punishing and shaming people for their past crimes and i know some people have committed worse crimes then outhers and probably need to be placed on some kind of watch list for public Safety BUT A 14 year old freshman dateing a 18 year old senior in high school 20/30 years ago is pointless information and lame az hell I’m so over IML

David please cannot puzzling quirks be punishment enough or should we all think on that one. Nothing wrong with a bit of punishment if one goes outside the bun. Is it the black guy or the white guy or the chinese guy or even the woman that is more dangerous in this reliability effort or are we all born with a golden halo like some president want to be.
I’m sure anyone can be more dangerous than anyone else given the right elements or circumstances. So what is the circumstances surrounding say an internet encounter or who’s on first… thank you Mr. Costello. Should we look at a teen after school setting were boy meets girl with a sexual flavor of hormones or who is watching to many cartoons of Judy Jetson or this fantasy of sexual motavation.
Are LE movitated for all this crash and burn on your parade or who sets who up in this reliablity con game.
The reliablity is we are all carnal unless you are of a different race. These after shocks of this whole registry before during and after these ordeals are pain, suffering, and punishment enough to some that is just as unjust as the police slicing you with a razor blade when shaving. So who’s cream is rising to the top in this ballgame of why…for the reliability of inducement and this misguided purpose in many of these sudo-protecting efforts.. Fill in all the blanks if you know or are we all pawns in this checkmate game.
Puzzling quirks? Are these the reliablity in all this registry or should we all just take this ordeal with stride and take this defrauding or should we all speak up for truth and justice. Isn’t that what a court of law whether in LA or Nome Alaska is all about.
Now yes Janice and her crew have baen nice to me. Sure earlier this year I gave you all a bit of preaching from the good book. I’m thankful janice let me do that and yes I have even gotten a bit of preaching from you all. Myself I don’t hardly know anything about anyone’s lifestyle, homelife, or anything else or past convictions or not. That is not the point. The point is the registry.
Yes many can give one a slap in the face in many ways. My sister she tries to hard at times it is like she wants to be the bussibody and than chalk it up as I was only trying to help. Answer me this. Did any of your brothers or sisters or parents get you into this registry stuff or was it this jaded policeman that didn’t really understand Rom. 13 rights or did he go way over the line and beat his sword of justice into pruninghooks. So who is the guilty party. Who is getting slapped around with this dirty ordeal trap.
And than they come to you raid your house, take your computer which in some cases I’m sure they do, look at all the porno one has on his or her computer and say to one “boy your in a heap of trouble”. Did the people tell them to do that? Than they can have the gull to extend to you a plea deal to make their cover up more plausable and what it comes down to is the blame’s on you. Does that make since. If it doesn’t than I’ll never come on here again to preach anything thats not of a russian roulette type with a barbie doll.
