Retired Army major general demoted for sex crime conviction

[Source: – 6/8/21]

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Secretary of Defense has reduced a retired Army major general to the rank of second lieutenant after his guilty plea in Virginia in 2020 to charges of rape and incest.

The Army Times reports Pentagon spokeswoman Lisa Lawrence says Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin demoted Maj. Gen. James J. Grazioplene to second lieutenant after determining that second lieutenant was the highest grade in which he served on active duty satisfactorily.

Grazioplene initially called the charges against him “false and incorrect.”

Lawrence says the action is not subject to appeal.

His retirement pay just took a serious hit.

I told you all this would come back to bite him even though he wasn’t eligible for UCMJ action. Seen it with a 4 star who was dropped to 2 stars in retirement the same way for a sex related infraction.

Read the details of his charges. The man raped his daughter, REPEATEDLY! The wife knew about it and told others about it. the Army claimed statute of limitations on the charges, and he ended up with 20 yrs PROBATION? . No mention of registration. Can you say “sweep it under the rug”? F*** the police Blue wall of silence , the Army Green wall is just as bad.

Correction… that particular “green wall” is only good for those above a certain rank, btdubs… if you’re below the rank of Lt. Col they will most likely give you the harshest punishment in the first place and try to stack your charges, in addition to your Commander telling everyone you’re guilty even before your trial.

The ghosts of Abu Ghraib perhaps.

Good point- Yet another example of how easy it is to shift blame of poor leadership and training on to enlisted and CGOs rather than brass and the CIA in charge of the whole operation.

Would love your thoughts, please comment.x
