TN: Sex Offender Notification Bill Advances In Tennessee Legislature

FAYETTEVILLE, Tenn.(WHNT)-A push for tougher sex offender notification laws in Tennessee came one step closer to reality Tuesday, part of an ongoing effort that originated in Lincoln County several months ago.

A committee in the Tennessee Legislature approved HB 1860, a bill that would allow municipal and county governments to mail written notices and post flyers in communities that convicted sex offenders move to. …

“This gives parents the knowledge of who is in their community,” said Blackwelder. “It doesn’t cost taxpayers a dime…In this bill there is an additional 50 dollar fee assessed to the sex offender. That 50 dollars will be earmarked for community notification.” Full Article

Another article pointing out that many people don’t make the effort to snoop into their neighbors personal affairs. If the registrants are going to pay for this notification I hope they’re afforded a decent photographer, so they don’t look like a mass-murderer on the mailer.

You’ve got to give ‘parents knowledge’ of who everyone is in community ..why a public policy that protects drug sellers..?..burglars ..?..dui’s.??..domestic violence.?? ..why protect those who have greater higher rate of danger as listed above From your ‘parents knowledge’ ???…..this public policy is far wrong on so many levels to write here but its gonna be a lotto jackpot for alot of people forced coerced to go through this.

It should be noted that this $50 ‘Notification Fee’ is in addition to an annual $150 Fee.
