CA: Former legislative aide accuses OC Assemblyman Bill Brough of rape

[abc7.com – 12/5/20]

Orange, Calif. (KABC) — A former legislative aide is accusing Assemblyman Bill Brough of raping her in 2015.

Patricia Todd, whose last name at the time was Lenkiewicz, is speaking publicly for the first time, after sending a complaint this week to law enforcement. Sacramento police confirm they are investigating the allegations.

“I’ve survived this for five years and five years is too long to not have the help and support,” said Todd, as she sat in her attorney’s office in Orange.

Todd was a legislative aide to state Sen. John Moorlach, working in the Capitol.

In her complaint to law enforcement, she alleged the assault happened July 7, 2015, after meeting Brough for dinner to discuss a potential committee secretary position for the Irish Caucus he was forming, that he said could involve trips to Ireland.

(when writing bills)

“We need to believe every victim and hold the accused accountable”

(when being charged)

“We need to get the facts”

Maybe all people should just be granted their rights to the presumption of innocence before all the media and news outlets have had their chance to butcher the truth and before prosecutors have painted the scene they want the jury to believe. But I guess no one thinks about that when their job is to convict people and they have to sell the public on this “tough on crime” image.

@Aero1

Sounding pretty judgmental and rather masochistic in your comment. Many factors come into play when deciding to report an abuse. Stigma, reputation, believability. Women face a harder critique for reporting these types of abuses, so often forego that additional trauma. Try not to judge and just accept the article for what it is , an incident reported.

This one is a tough. I first met Assemblyman Bill Brough in the wall way at the capital discussing his AB-201 Bill designed to allow local cities and counties to make law kicking RSO out of parks and beaches. Sadly, he might now be convicted without any evidence other than a he said she said allegation.

I find it awesome , he is just a piece of crap that placed himself above everyone else . That thinks people should be on a a stinking registry , A registry where people are “Assaulted ” “Murdered” Harassed by vigilantes , our own kids/wifes/husbands abused , all in the name of fear these phony registry pushers so they can steal more tax cattle money , while the whole time they them self’s have a elephant sized secret in their closet , that’s the way it works with weak finger pointing phony’s They always seem to have the most bones stashed under their house/basement , The registry is going no where soon so I hope he enjoys the full on effect of his rights being yank out from beneath him , that go’s for the rest of these pro constitution stealing control freaks , first he should do some prison time “Real Prison” you know the prisons built for us common folk? then grab him up some level 3 rest of his life registry , her word against his , hmmm wonder how many 1000’s have been railroaded and are on this PUNISHMENT list with the same weak evidence !
