ACSOL Letter to DOGE Requests Elimination of All Funding for SORNA

Source: ACSOL

The Alliance for Constitutional Sex Offense Laws (ACSOL) has prepared and sent a letter to the federal Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), headed by Elon Musk, to eliminate all funding for the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA).  According to that letter, annual funding for SORNA exceeds $10 billion.

The letter states clearly that SORNA funding has punished and continues to punish U.S. citizens required to register.  The letter identifies three agencies — Department of Justice, Department of State and the General Services Administration — as recipients of SORNA funding.

For example, SORNA requires individuals convicted of a sex offense involving a minor, including offenses that did not include violence or even physical touching, to have a “unique identifier” added to their passport.  This identifier is now printed on page one of the passports of affected registrants and can result in the denial of entry into countries.  In the history of the world only two countries — Nazi Germany and the USSR — have added similar markings to the passports of their citizens.  For both countries, the passports of only their Jewish citizens had this marking.

The letter also addresses recently issued regulations which require registrants to take actions that are not possible in the state where they live.  For example, the regulations require many registrants to register four times a year despite the fact that state law requires registration only once a year.

ACSOL will post any and all replies to this letter on this website.

OMG… Was hoping you’d do this! I wanted to but didn’t know how.
I think maybe you should have pointed to the fraud of “frightening and high” to show why it is a HUGE waste of money.

Our children’s safety and well-being should never have been sacrificed under this fraudulent money-grab guise of public safety.

If SORNA is an act of Congress how can DOGE defund it?

Also, I did hear them say that they were not going to take any money away from public safety but 10 billion a year for nothing is a HUGE waste fraud and abuse.

I believe the only thing that would have added a little more punch to this letter would be to add the stats from the research done proving the last thirty years the registry has been totally ineffective. That would give Elon another easy argument for cutting money.

What about mandatory minimum prison sentences? Say the mandatory minimum is 24 months more than the US Sentencing Guideline sentence: at $100 per day that’s $72,000. The timing couldn’t be better to avoid congressman trying to one up one another on nonviolent picture viewing crimes. Same with eliminating SORNA. Maybe no republican would argue against it if Elon Musk pursues it.

Thank you ACSOL I fully support your efforts and hope for some success

I think it might be better to write directly to Elon Musk. Sending to DOGE doesn’t guarantee Musk will see it. I feel like if he doesn’t then nobody else will forward it.

To those of you asking” why didn’t you include………” , you can’t pen a request and make it about every little thing that bugs you.
The letter’s short and to the point, as it should be. You start pointing out each issue and the person reading is going to get disinterested very quickly. How many of you have seen a long diatribe here and didn’t even bother finishing it. Besides the letter is directed towards budgeting, which DOGE is addressing. You really think any of those idiots even know what tier reduction is? Or care if someone can’t go visit a relative in another state? Come on!

Maybe folks don’t know that Elon Musk backed a bill by Nancy Mace to deport undocumented migrants convicted of sex crimes. And Elon came down hard on Dems who voted against that bill. Most people will agree that anyone who commits a crime should be deported, but the fact that Elon gets especially irked over those with sex offenses, sort of tells you he’ll leave SORNA in place. 🙁 But it’s always nice to dream 😏

Wouldn’t that be something if this turns out to be our saving grace. Often miracles come from unlikely sources. Thank you ACSOL this is brilliant.

Anything at all would help, let alone a letter from Janice herself representing us. I’m so, SO sick of having to register every year for 33 years now (for one single count of 288c, never done anything before or after that) and all the restrictions (i.e. punishments) for me and my family that come with it. I’m so sick of the prospect of having to register for the rest of my life. Aren’t you all? Let’s help Janice and support ACSOL 100%.

48 comments on this site and nothing on x. People need to get in the public forums and expose the recidivism myth every chance they get. Regardless of pushback that TRUTH needs to be said.

Hey, it’s worth a shot! Let’s see if their “efficiency” rhetoric is genuine or bogus.

i think this is a fantastic idea, someone just needs to get the issues noticed, and then it should flame the fire, of how much money this system costs, especially with law enforcements run for federal grant money for ICAC programs. Everything is all about the money, and not the protection of children,

While I generally applaud this effort, it does give me cause for concern. My fear is that this will put us on their radar in a way which we weren’t till now. This team (Musk/Trump) love pushing against people who ask for things they don’t agree with, and with Pam Bondi as AG I’m worried that things will be getting worse for us.

Well Done. Thanks

Framed
I too was hoping you or someone would contact Elon about this. As I wanted to but was afraid I would say the wrong thing and mess it up. I am on the registry permanently in Missouri . Here is the truth as to what happened. I stepped out of the shower not knowing there was some kids in a vacant house next to mine. One of them saw me so I was accused of exposing myself to them. It was after dark about 120 feet away. All 4 of the kids ,now around 40 years old were listed as victims. I don’t even think the prosecution even talked to them because they didn’t even get their ages right at the time. Here 28 years later I’m still being punished though I was removed from the registry in 2008 from the state I was convicted in Kansas.
I would be glad to let you use my case as an example if you want to to confirm all I’m saying is factual.
This nonsense has to stop.

Isn’t it ironic that the government created the registry that created the recidivism myth that created the mob that is now turning on the government over releasing the Epstein list. Combine the Salem witch trials with mcarthyism and this is what you get. They are literally eating their own

While I think this department is exposing a lot of interesting things, the leader of the department is the same one that falsely accused someone oversees of being a pedo, if everybody recalls correctly.

As I agree that the entire regime should be thrown away and money saved from implementing it, I can’t actually see this department recommending it be done away with. It would give a bad focus on them for being potentially soft on crime and going against everything they fought for in the last election. Statistics be damned, he still wants to make money through his endeavors that need public support.

I have been on the registry for 20+ years. No social media either as the don’t allow registrants to have a social media account. It’s a lifetime punishment with no avenue to ever get it off my record or off the public list or registry. It’s a real hindrance to communicating with the outside world. I have to verify my address 4x a year, inform them when I buy a new car and if I use a new email address. The crime committed was over 30 years ago.

An interesting possibility may be the president’s new “Gold Card Idea.” Immigrants who pay enough money can live and work in the USA. As ridiculous as it may sound, he may “make a deal” to expunge records for money.

I only wish the first paragraph had ended with “… exceeds $10 billion and does nothing to promote public safety.

In the news today is the Trump administration creating yet another registry – this time for people in the US illegally.

If this is the case, I don’t hold any hope for them removing registries. Trump loves his ‘enemies’ lists and seems keen on creating more of them, not removing ours.

Seems to me it would be wise to tread lightly.

SORNA, Prison Industrial Complex, and other agencies involved are the definition of bloated and a waste of taxpayer money. Maybe I should send Elon Musk some Ketamine and he wouldn’t consider PFR’s enemies.

Good intent. Badly executed. Shouldn’t have tried the emotional appeal. He is a numbers guy. He could care less about a criminal conviction even to teens. Shoulda stated logistic facts. Such as hey, Florida is collecting money off of dead people and states everywhere are collecting money on registrants not even living in their state. Or states are using the money to pay for 6 digit operations that waste time and money on registry checks when they often net little to no arrests. I feel like this letter will do nothing but cause future requests to be ignored. Sorry just spitting facts. It doesnt matter to them about Sorna being punishment. Elon is a numbers guy. Doge is about numbers.

All you people that say the letter should of said … and … or … or said that i would have done it this way etc… well there is the address above to write your own letter! also post your letter so we can all tell you how you should of written your letter!

I will say thank you and be grateful for writing the letter!
