TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — On Tuesday, Rensselaer County legislators filed a local law to create a local animal abuse registry. “This legislation will establish an online registry for individuals who are convicted of animal abuse and neglect,” said Minority Leader Peter Grimm. “It is in the best interest of our residents and their animals that an online registry be established identifying individuals, living in Rensselaer County.”
Animal abuse registry….. anyone??
How does listing someone publicly online for this protect animals? I am sure someone is not going to abuse or neglect someone else’s pet. The only point of this is public shaming, plain and simple.
This is how it starts, next there will be a registry for Domestic Abuse, DUI’s (unless too many politicians have them) and it cascades from there until the government is in the right to register, track and control most Americans, except the people rich enough to avoid conviction. A few strokes of a pen is all it takes to ruin someone’s, or everyone’s life, we are living proof of that.
I swear some other idiot tried this a year or two ago, but I can’t remember where (Virginia, maybe?). Nor do I know if anything came of it.
It’s all over folks, “ the re-offense rate is 100% and the abusers can therefore turn to attack people.” We can pass all the laws we want as a society, however if a person has ill intent a registry isn’t going to stop it. How many people abuse another person’s pet? Is that 100% also or do they like throwing out that high number for fear mongering. If it saves one animal it must be passed. Just think of the animals.
I think it’s a great idea!!
Maybe when they have half of America on Registries for animal abuse, domestic violence, DUIs, drug offenses, mail theft, shoplifting, graffiti and code violations (such as overgrown lawns), etc. will Registries get more attention. And it will become an unmanageable nightmare for LEOs…… just like SORs, every State will have its own different laws, restrictions, requirements for each different type of Registry! 🤣🤣🤣
Hey, I’m all for public registries for every infraction committed by everyone. At a certain point it just becomes white noise and people will stop paying attention to this worthless information.
Oh look! Another registry!
(But, fear not, no one is prosecuted for violating it. 🙄
Only those convicted of sex offenses should be prosecuted, right? 😡)

What about a registry for lawmakers who pass useless bills or don’t follow the Constitution? Heck nobody would be in office. I might support this one.
Because why address the root of the problem (being a responsible at parenting and animal ownership) when you can bamboozle the public into a false sense of security with feckless Online shaming registries for easy votes.
Another public shaming registry?? Give this a read:
