UPDATED 5/24/22: Southern Baptist leaders say they will release list of alleged sex abusers [washingtonpost.com]

Armed with a secret list of more than 700 abusive pastors, Southern Baptist leaders chose to protect the denomination from lawsuits rather than protect the people in their churches from further abuse.
Survivors, advocates, and some Southern Baptists themselves spent more than 15 years calling for ways to keep sexual predators from moving quietly from one flock to another. The men who controlled the Executive Committee (EC)—which runs day-to-day operations of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC)—knew the scope of the problem. But, working closely with their lawyers, they maligned the people who wanted to do something about abuse and repeatedly rejected pleas for help and reform.
“Behind the curtain, the lawyers were advising to say nothing and do nothing, even when the callers were identifying predators still in SBC pulpits,” according to a massive third-party investigative report released Sunday.
As part of BSC smoke screen they are major proponent of harsh sex offender laws.
Hypocrisy.
Harry I was reading that last night as I scanned thru the internet on topics and things of interest. One has to understand we can’t blame this on any group as much of this is registry is error and a stumbling block. Now since many are in a southern baptist area as VA.some are catholic’s, some are Jim Baker or Jim Jones followers but the point is things at times get covered up as in government Theirs good bad and ugly in everything you know but this registry in many forms is injustice in many ways without due process of true justice.
So the registry was created to protect “persons” from sexual abuse (mainly protect children). But let’s look at all of the “news” out there now recently and not too long ago of all of the child sexual abuse issues that are coming up or have come up and discovered.
It is a good thing we have the registry because the list here shows how well the registry protected all of the children involved in the below cases. How many people that were involved in the below cases were on the registry at the time of their crime?
Let’s go thru the list one more time now.
SOUTHERN BAPTISTS
Catholic Church
135 Teachers and Aides
Boy Scouts of America
… and I am sure I may be missing a few other large cases
It is a good thing we have the registry? Guess its also a good thing to cover up or to put others thru double jeopardy or even the shame of it all in many ways. So in many ways the registry is good until one gets caught up in it or is that the mistakes of many on here. Sounds a bit confusing to me.
The article is about Southern Baptist and I’m sure it has more of a meaning today in many areas. Here is an article that many may find interesting…https://www.biola.edu/blogs/good-book-blog/2019/the-end-never-justifies-the-means
