FL: SEX OFFENDERS should not be allowed to purchase lottery tickets; they just might win

If proof were ever needed that an individual, once listed on a sex offender registry, no matter for what offense nor how long ago, is forever more thereafter considered unworthy of anything good ever happening in his life, this is it.

A registrant in Florida won a three million dollar scratch-off lottery, and the wrath of every hater in the United States and then some was raised beyond the boiling point. Full Op-Ed Piece

Well, the lotto winners are selected at random. The Florida registrant who won is just as random as anybody else; he won it fair and square. If the average citizen in Florida has a problem with that, they should step up and buy their own lotto tickets. However it does appear that so far all they are doing is complaining about somebody else’s good fortune.

I am sorry to say it, but I am beginning to suspect that there are a lot of very foolish people living in Florida; many of them may even hold public office.

I play the lottery here in California.. On one hand I hope I win the “Big One” but on the other hand I dread having my name plastered everywhere… I remember awhile back I read about how a sex offender in Alaska got beaten up bad because he won a some sort of raffle..
I read up alot about the lottery laws.. Some states allow you to have a lawyer represent you keeping your identity secret from the public…
The only way to hid a portion of your identy in California is to do like this guy http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/lottery-winner-who-scooped-450m-3340023
Sadly through the power of Google and HomeStead.. you type a name and look at Homestead and people can say “Wait a minute, that name is similar to that Sex Offender’s name”

Hmm….This is strikingly reminiscent of the Nuremberg laws enacted by the Nazi’s in the 30s; one of which prohibited certain classes of citizens from playing the lottery. What can we do against such hate, arrogance and ignorance?!?

Good. Lets hope he uses some of the money to get people to leave him alone.

I am very glade he won that money, maybe he could give some of it to the California Rsol. But we should stop hiding, because we are scared, of what people think, are what they do. They vote in to law, the hate crime bill, use it.And I hope the man use the money for good, bring humanity back.

Hell if I win some lottery money and if the Staff of CARSOL can figure out a way for me not to get my name in the papers and lottery website, I would be happy to donate a decent amount for their services and the future of the movement 😀

Hey why stop at RCs? Why not anyone ever convicted of any felony?
Or anyone ever arrested?
And anyone who has ever declared bankruptcy …… or who has received government benefits ….. or anyone who didn’t graduate from high school?
Or maybe a minimum income requirements in order to keep the poor from gambling away their money?
Perhaps we can simply have a morals litmus test and a popularity vote before one is allowed to collect their winnings (pending the outcome of a full background check and investigation, of course).

The Nazis just kept piling on more laws and more restrictive laws against the Jews. I read that the state of Alabama is trying new ways to get legislation to ban Sharia law from being Alabama law (as if that would ever happen). There needs to be a proposal to ban Nazi law from becoming US law, since Massachusetts and Florida seem to be proposing some really bad precedents in the US. Although I’d have to check the Jim Crow laws to see if these are really precedents in the US.

If I won that money I would take it and get a lawyer to assist me in renouncing my American citizenship (something I plan on doing anyway) and get the F out!

Florida is just own of the most f-ed up states there is. So…they have already made it impossible for a RSO to live there…work there…and now they want to take away even the remotest opportunity to win a lottery. I mean absurd!

This sort of thing shows with no doubt that Florida is PUNISHING sex offenders after they have done their time! They are trying in fact to KILL THEM by denying basic human needs such as food and shelter!

Why is nothing being done? I am sure if they were doing this to any other minority group be that blacks, Jews, or others there would be no question that there would be protests, the ACLU might actually do something about as well.

Just blows my mind!

Actually, a registrant would just have to do one of several things:

1. He can have a trusted family member cash the ticket in his or her name. Best would be a wife.
2. He can go with a lawyer to create an LLC, then use the lawyer as a proxy to cash the ticket.
3. If he purchases a ticket that is part of a multi-state lottery, and and one of the states is in one of the states that allow for you to be anonymous (I think there are 5 or so), then the registrant can establish residence in the state, then cash the ticket anonymously.

There are way too many holes to get around here. Even if a registrant signs a ticket before the lottery itself, he can legally divest his name from the ticket (best to see a lawyer) to ensure that the proxy winner would not be associated with the registrant.

I would say if a CA RSOL member wins a big enough lottery jackpot where he will be publicized (over a million dollars), the first person he should call is Janice. I’m sure she could work out an equitable arrangement that would also involve a generous donation to the cause. 😀

Moral of the story: If you are a registrant get a trusted other person or go to a state that allows you to claim your winnings anonymously.

Florida registrant is being sued for his entire winnings by his victims:
