Oregon has the most sex offenders per capita in the country, but only lists about 2 percent of them on the state’s public website.
The state is working to overhaul the system, but critics say that plan falls short and KATU has learned it’s in danger of missing another crucial deadline. Full Article
FYI, whom may not familiar with Oregon, Barker is another Runner. I near Oregon and most of our local news is Southern Oregon supported. One all most do not hear about RC re-offending and if there is one that does it run on the Oregon news channels (mostly by KATU) daily, for weeks. The type of sex offender that appear to be common are teacher and clergy, all first time offenses. Oregon’s system actually works and public are protected. Barker have trying prove himself for many years and with out KATU and PFML, he would be mute.
I’d like to see what OR’s recidivism rates are versus states that have higher registry percentages. This could well be a way to glean whether or not registries have any significant statistical impact on recidivism. (I’m pretty sure I already know the answer.) It would be quite difficult for registry advocates to argue that OR is somehow different if they have similar or lower recidivism.
Let’s do the numbers and see how OR’s 2% compares to ID’s 100%, to CA’s 75%, etc. I bet dollars to doughnuts there’s no statistically significant variance.
The data certainly exist, but finding and using it statistically could prove difficult. Perhaps there’s a social science PhD candidate out there needing a thesis??
