Great! But we all know this applies to anyone not a sex offender!
What a joke. The same body that passed IML is now advocating to help those that paid their debt to society become reintegrated. Hey Senate…you think conspicuous markings on my passport helps reduce the stigma and burdens I face?
Same body of people who bought into John Walsh’s, et al, ideas too before throwing people a bone for second chances at the END of the month and not at the beginning of the month. Maybe next year they will get it right…..
Only for people who killed someone, embezzled, stole something, little stuff like that.
I’m complaining about this just like everyone else, the Senate throwing us a bone.
But I’m also writing to my state senators…we’ve got to get in there and make waves. ..if we don’t fight for change it’ll never happen. Write letters send emails, if we all do it sooner or later we’ll get results.
Given that the draconian length of federal prison sentences do so much to ensure that released offenders have difficulty reentering society, perhaps the Senate will take another look at them. Or do something — anything! — that is actually useful.
This senate resolution has no real affect on anyone. It is just a resolution to make people generally aware to give convicted citizens a second chance to become a productive member of society. Local, State and Federal politicians pass tons of these awareness resolutions every month. The have no laws or actions attached to them. They just print them up on pretty paper with pretty fonts and designate some organization to receive it to hang on their wall. It’s just a feel good thing. I’m sure that April was a “special month” for 100’s of different issues just to make their constituents feel special and to promote the idea that our politicians care about the various causes. There is never any legislation or funds attached to these monthly special awareness issues. There is always 100% unanimous legislative approval of all these do nothing monthly designations.
