CA Senate Bill 615 Temporarily Suspended

Senate Bill 615, which would have limited the discretion of judges and harmed members of the LGBTQ community, has been temporarily suspended.  The suspension is due to the author’s removal of the bill from consideration today by the Senate Public Safety Committee.

“Because Senate Bill 615 has been withdrawn from consideration by committee, the bill is suspended for the remainder of this calendar year,” stated ACSOL Executive Director Janice Bellucci. “It is possible, however, that the bill could be advanced next year before the current legislative session ends.”

The author of Senate Bill 615 is Senator Melissa Melendez, a Republican from Riverside County.  If passed, this bill would have significantly limited Senate Bill 145 that was passed by the legislature during the past legislative session.  The author of Senate Bill 145 is Senator Scott Wiener, a Democrat from San Francisco.

Great news! Any reason given why she removed the bill? Seems odd on her part.

My best guess is that Sen. Melendez has discovered there is little or no support for her bill. Although it is theoretically possible that she can revive her bill in 2022, my best guess is that it is unlikely she will do so.

Thanks to all who their time out to respond to our call@ Janice’s & ACSOL’s request and our LGBTQIA+ RC’s here.
It was needed and she may pop up for a new start against us in 2022 year.
May that backwards persin NOT update nor reauth the SBill.Senator Weiner did ALOT of work as he dies cor all CA residents zthe Castro and his Constiuents and the LGBTQIA+ Community also.
