Take the survey on current and future reformist/abolitionist efforts

Source: Derek W. Logue of OnceFallen.com

Many of you will be familiar with the name Derek Logue and Once Fallen. Derek has asked that we share this survey with our supporters. Here is Derek’s message:

The fight to reform or abolish the public sex offense registry began when Megan’s Law was signed in 1996, and over the years, efforts to challenge the public registry have grown larger and more organized. Those who identify as registry reformists or abolitionists are not a homogeneous group– some of us are on the registry, some of us are loved ones of a registered person, and some of us have no loved ones on the registry but believe these laws have gone too far. Since we are not homogeneous, we have diverse opinions about what we are striving to achieve and the means to achieve these goals. We also have diverse viewpoints on our interactions with politics, the media, and law enforcement.

This is why I feel we need a survey of registry reformists and abolitionists.

If you are involved in any way in the movement to reform or abolish the registry, whether you are a registered person, the loved one of a registered person, an independent volunteer, or involved in any of the registry reformist groups in any way, please take this survey.

This survey is 98 multiple choice and checkbox questions (plus an additional comments area) and will take roughly 30-45 minutes to complete. While this survey asks questions related to demographics, your thoughts on current and future reformist/abolitionist efforts, and your feelings on key society issues like politics, the media, and law enforcement, it is completely anonymous; and individual responses cannot be traced back to you.

The purpose of this survey is to understand the diverse backgrounds, needs, and opinions on how registry reform/abolition groups should organize and conduct business. The results will hopefully assist both current and future reformist groups in planning future strategies around the needs and diverse viewpoints of those on the registry.

Please share with fellow anti-registry and reform activist groups. Survey closes January 31, 2023 at 11:59pm. If you have questions about the survey, please email me at iamthefallen1@yahoo.com

I already completed it.

I just took the survey. Thank you

Done…

It took significantly less time than was suggested. Due to a device issue, my tablet crashed, I had to do most of it twice. Still took only maybe 20 minutes total.

I have also taken the survey. It’s for registrants, their families and people like me who are advocates.

I took that survey, i thought it was a good questionnaire and am curious of how many took it because by todays internet standards if i can get scammed by every con artist half way around the world every other day of the week then most PFTRs should have been able to get this survey in there E-mail! just sayin!

I’m confident that no two survey respondents answered completely the same. Not a bad survey, Derek, thanks! I look forward to seeing the final results.

I took the survey and my husband wanted to take it but the site would not let him do it because we use the same computer. It said you have already taken the survey. I am sure we are not the only ones who have to use the same computer. WTF!

When thinking about the politics of our situation and possible public actions, please have humility. Don’t be so sure that others are at all open to seeing our humanity, or coldly evaluating the efficacy of the registry. Politically, we are radioactive. Appeals to human empathy might never work. Self-righteousness will backfire. Damanding rights will backfire. Being a gadfly will backfire, politically. They are laughing at us, all of them, always. We must continue to push and experiment. But always with humility, with respect for the widespread anger and hatred directed at us.
