A Republican state attorney last May declined to prosecute six voter fraud cases that involved circumstances strikingly similar to the cases later brought against 20 ex-felons by Gov. Ron DeSantis’ election police unit and statewide prosecutors.
The office of State Attorney Bill Gladson, whose district includes The Villages and five Republican counties, confirmed six convicted sex offenders in Lake County had voted in the 2020 general election, according to a determination letter obtained by the Orlando Sentinel.
Signing and dating a form where you attest to your validity to vote is on the person, especially with the verbiage shown, even if the state makes appearances that says you are or may be eligible to vote. The state is in the wrong because they already know who has a felony conviction through FLA court actions. Their database should highlight that. If a felon moves to FLA from a non-FLA jurisdiction, then they should not be registering to vote to begin with, after researching voter laws, while the state should validate an applicant’s voter application.
The party affiliated DAs doing prosecutorial discretion is completely up to them. DAs have the power to do what they feel is best. Calling out party affiliation to show disparity of this is petty. It will never be 100% uniform in what the DAs do across them all, regardless of parties.
