The local government of Valenzuela City announced on Thursday that it has become the first city in the Philippines to enact an ordinance creating a database for convicted sex offenders.
Councilor Walter Magnum dela Cruz, who authored the ordinance, was inspired by a case involving an elementary school teacher who continued to teach despite being convicted for child exploitation.
“The principal said they didn’t have ‘official communication’ about the conviction,” Dela Cruz said, expressing frustration over the lack of information sharing.
Ordinance 1235 aims to address this issue by creating a citywide database of individuals convicted of various sex offenses, including rape, acts of lasciviousness, qualified and simple seduction, corruption of minors, abduction and violations of laws against child abuse, exploitation and online sexual abuse.
“While there were concerns about data privacy, Dela Cruz emphasized that only specific entities, such as educational institutions, covered industries and barangay captains, will have access to the registry”
Well, at least the Philippines is still well ahead of Amerika when it comes to not publicly shaming people on the registry
“…only specific entities, such as educational institutions, covered industries and barangay captains, will have access to the registry”
And so it begins.
It spreads like cancer. That’s why we need to stop it right here in California. Our state is the source of the entire problem.
Isn’t this the same country that just recently raised their age of consent from 12 to 16? You’d think they would give it more time between having no laws against adults sleeping with 12 year-olds, and suddenly having a need for a registry. It sort of makes them look hypocritical on their behalf.
This is illogical. While nobody who is convicted of child exploitation should be an elementary school teacher, there are many other things that one could do which should disqualify them as an elementary school teacher. This is an incorrect solution to the problem. The correct solution would be to check the background of the person being hired and have a way to properly retrieve that information so those who would do the checking could disqualify someone from being a teacher for this reason and all the other reasons that should be disqualifying.
The fake “public safety” virus is spreading.
Same people that download the registry app believe those drones are for “our protection.” This is how dumb they are.
