Brian Pepin, a father of three and former member of the Poway City Council in California, publicly called for stricter sex offender residency restrictions during Tuesday’s St. Johns County Board of Commissioners meeting.
Now a political consultant, Pepin recently moved to St. Augustine with his family and said that a registered sex offender moved directly across the street from their home.
He shared the emotional impact this has had on his family during the public comment period.
“Last week we learned that the guy that moved in across the street was arrested a few years ago for having child porn,” Pepin said. “He’s got a Ring doorbell trained on my house. I’ve got these three young kids.”
Pepin noted that his wife has been deeply affected, saying she has been “crying herself to sleep at night.”

Federal court records indicate the man living across the street was initially arrested in 2007 for possession of child pornography, served 3.5 years in federal prison starting in 2010, and was released on supervised release in 2013.
Oh! My heart sheds bitter tears for the sufferings of this former pol’s wife. The PFR across the street is likely trying to live his life in peace. Let him.
Could it be that Mrs. Pepin is “crying herself to sleep everynight” due to circumstances other than their new neighbor? Paranoid ideations often have its root causes in a troubled past. Perhaps some professional counselling is what’s indicated here. In the meantime, it would be well-advised to just leave the neighbor alone.

Not all CP involves young kids and you are afraid of a crime that occurred in 2007. I bet the guy hasn’t offended either. Maybe you and your wife should move into a gated community or move back to San Diego. Sounds like your wife married a wuss of a ” man”.

Can he find a single case in US history where someone with a computer CP conviction assaulted neighborhood children? This guy’s been a free man for over 10 years, he seems to own a house, or at least rents one in a decent neighborhood, as far as neighbors go he’s absolutely harmless.
The guy was arrested 18 years ago (not “a few years ago”) and served time in prison for possessing images. Oh my goodness, people, pull yourselves together. He doesn’t have a ring doorbell “trained on your house”, Einstein, he’s in fear for his life living on the public hit list.
As for the wife supposedly crying herself to sleep at night with just this limited information on the guy, what a poor example she is setting for her kids. How will they ever learn to be strong, fair, and empowered to keep themselves safe, regardless of who lives in their neighborhood.
Maybe we need to take up some donations and buy a few more houses for registrants to live across the road from this corrupt politician ! there is a reason he prolly left poway.. which is 20 miles from me, place (poway) is to nice to have this scum live there anyways.

We are stuck with this registry and notification B.S ruining lives not saving them not in anyway are these registration Laws helped save even 1 person, There is more and more people feeling this way all the time and with the cost to operate registration and notification paid for with Tax Dollars enough tax Dollars to be able to do real good for the Victims of sexual assault. We can Vote in change and Sponsor reps who will fight to end the registry could we get a petition that would put it before a federal judge to end all sex offense registry laws that was set up to continue punishment until the day we die, this is wrong and unlike 20 yrs ago today people I think are more willing to stand and say No They are not all the same and yes Most everyone deserves a second chance, and for some even that first chance at be able to live without fear of being shunned and or ridicule one and another changing the law makers is where change will be.
Having a ring doorbell is not illegal and could have been installed by the previous owner. Brian should become an actor since he likes to create drama.

This guy didn’t get his way in California–thanks to Janice for stopping residency restrictions😁 So he moves to Floriduh to mess with registered citizens in that state which already have some of the strictest ordinances in the country. A 1000 foot distance isn’t good enough for this guy. So he wants to expand it to 2500 feet so the poor man can live where?🤔Back under the Julia Tuttle Causeway in Miami? Even Ron Book thought that was a little harsh 😒
Of course, if he and his family feel so threatened, they could move themselves. It would be a lot easier and more cost effective, though it would also deny him the opportunity to parade around like an idiot for the press.
Emotional impact? If he hadn’t made a big deal about I bet his own family still wouldn’t be aware of the person’s status as a PFR. I bet his actions could constitute emotion abuse of a minor.
I guess he would be happier with a drug dealer or murderer.
And the ring was “trained “ across the street? My ring practically covers the entire block!
Correct me if I’m wrong, and I won’t need to be corrected because I’m right, but isn’t it illegal to use the information on the registry to harass a PFR? Yes it is, and I’m 100% certain that the police will charge this idiot for harassing him. Yeah, I’m wrong on that because police have bigger crimes to chase, like going after a PFR for not updating the color of his car in time.
There is an effective angle we have NOT looked at in combating harsh laws against the once convicted. The angle of Grace. Recently as a chaplain I went to the Florida State Capital and addressed our issues from that position…they were speechless. The balance of freedom has 3 legs… 1. Justice/punishment. 2. Public safety. 3. GRACE: Restoration and Reconciliation. Seem the Chair of Freedom keeps collapsing by breaking that 3rd leg! All laws need to be sifted through the 3rd leg of GRACE first before the other two. We can better fight this from the position of FAITH and Matthew 26:40… “What you do to the least of these my brethren you do it unto Me.” saith The Lord.
