While Kennewick residents and local lawmakers continue to try and halt a proposed transitional home for sexually violent predators, one nearby city isn’t waiting until they face the same issue.
West Richland’s planning commission plans a public hearing Thursday on changing city zoning to force any future “secure transition facilities” into light industrial zones.
The move comes after all eight bills proposed by Tri-Cities lawmakers this legislative session failed to gain any traction in Olympia last week.

West Richland’s plan could greatly reduce the ability to place a sex offender home in the city.

I would think they would want PFR living near each other so they could easily be tracked, kept an eye on, and the Calvary could come in to their harassment checks. Nothing about sex offense laws or regulations make a lick of sense. Truly an abomination to the Constitution and humanity.
It’s irrational because it’s just bigotry. There used to be a Mad Magazine bit, “You Just Can’t Win With a Bigot,” showing the hypocrisy inherent in most forms of bigotry. This would make a perfect strip. A guy complaining, “Did you hear that a [PFR] just moved in down the block? Why can’t those people stay out of our neighborhoods!” and a second panel with the same guy reading a news story and shouting, “They’re sayin’ there’s a house on the other side of town that’s got a half dozen [PFRs] in it! They’re all up to no good, if you ask me!”
