Frustrated by legislative inaction, the federal judge who found Minnesota’s sex offender program unconstitutional has threatened a “more forceful solution” if state leaders fail to implement immediate reforms.
In a harshly worded order issued Wednesday, Judge Donovan Frank of the U.S. District Court in St. Paul called on the state to correct systemic problems with the Minnesota Sex Offender Program (MSOP), which locks up about 720 sex offenders who have completed their prison terms but are deemed unsafe for public release.
Frank gave the state until Sept. 21 to file proposals, and he scheduled a public hearing on the remedies for Sept. 30. Full Article
Finally we might have a judge who takes seriously constitutional violations and is prepared to act and not just spout at the mouth.
The politicians are too terrified to take action to remedy this problem. To restore the rule of law and human decency, the judge must take action, as he has indicated.
Frankly, the political cowards ought to resign.
I find it disturbing that the governor and many of the legislators know they are violating the constitutional rights of their victims. The governor is going to Mexico while the law of the land is being violated!? I suppose that shows who is doing the violating and how much they really care.
And now the unamerican people that our government is plagued with are going to start crying that the laws that protect the rights of these people and everyone else are bad and we need to change them to line up with their warped sense of right and wrong.
The fact that these people (Dayton and state Attorney General Lori Swanson) are seemingly unwilling to accept, respect and abide by the laws of the land shows their true stripe.
This isn’t the first federal judge to take an honest stand against these injustices; but they all seem to just disappear or fade away and you never hear about it or them again. Perhaps it will be different this time, but I’m not holding my breath.
That’s right. These elected officials are all cowards and enemy of the state and constitution. I really hope this judge has the courage to follow thru. I guess well see.
And the predicted response:

In short, what they want is for the judge to do the dirty work so they can allow the governor and legislators to scream and pontificate on their anti-sex-offender high horse when the the citizens are released from custody, so they don’t have to defend their decisions at the ballot box. Legislative and Executive branches have gone ALL out of whack the past 100 years or so.
