Statewide Survey–Occupational Licensing Boards & Criminal Records

Root & Rebound is taking the first step in trying to connect and coordinate statewide efforts to reduce Occupational Licensing Bans and Barriers based on a candidate’s criminal record, and are asking for 15 minutes of your time to tell us about any work you are involved in through this survey:

CA Criminal Records & Occupational Licensing Advocacy & Representation Coordinating Statewide Efforts
This will help us to understand what is happening in the current landscape and where our efforts and statewide coordination are needed and not needed (just as important) to provide more opportunities for people with records.

We see a severe need for reform and better representation on this issue through our Reentry Legal Hotline and with incarcerated students involved in our Training Program who need opportunities to do the work they are skilled/trained for. We would like to see movement on this issue in California in the years to come, but do not want to duplicate current efforts or reinvent the wheel; rather, we would like to prop up, strengthen, and connect current efforts and groups who plan/hope to be more involved in this issue. Any answers you provide will allow us to do just that. We will share answers (in digestible format) with all survey participants.

We would like to know more about your current efforts, future goals, and interest in both policy advocacy on this issue and providing representation to applicants. Please take 15 minutes to answer this survey, and please feel free to send onto others (though I have included many in BCC!).

All best,
R&R Team

After losing my professional license in healthcare, I went back and obtained an MBA and my charges where expunged! Although, I couldn’t obtain a CPA license, Real Estate Licrnse, Financial Advisor License and so on!

Well, when I went to the Licensing Board back in the day, I was somewhat hopeful. There where MD’s arrested for murder (wife) who where convicted of manslaughter? There was another MD convicted of (2) Felony Sexual Batteries (prison), yet they retained their licenses? You would pass out to see what they get away with, but yet they retain their licenses? Very unfair!

Hopeful, I get your drift. I have the same background FYI. It’s very difficult to re obtain your license.,COR. I had my PC 243.4 (a) reduced to a misdemeanor/expunged many years back. I was very fortunate. I had a lot of luck. I eventually went back to school and obtained my MBA. I don’t know your situation etc, but losing my professional license was worst than my legal issue. I think getting off the registry with the new law/having your health and a job is better than nothing. I feel for you/we sacrificed a great deal for our education. I wish you all the luck. Stay Hopeful!
