ID: Local woman gets jail time for sexual relations with teen boy

[eastidahonews.com – 11/15/20]

ARCO — A Soda Springs woman will spend time in jail after an illegal sexual relationship with a teenage boy in 2016.

Amanda Katherine Steele, 35, was ordered on Tuesday by District Judge Darren Simpson to spend 90-days in jail followed by seven years on felony probation. Simpson suspended a three to 10-year prison sentence that could be served if Steele is not successful on probation.

Because Steele was not charged with a sex crime, she does not have to register as a sex offender.

Given his age, it makes sense why she does have to register. What doesnt make sense is that somehow the same 17 year old can legally consent to sex with someone 22 or younger, but 23+ is suddenly a predator that manipulate them. How the hell do they arrive at these random numbers? I damn well bet it wasn’t through research.

@ Ed C: Very true. Sex offense laws seem to be based primarily on fear, discomfort, and public sentiment. 🙄

I hope you all will spare a compassionate thought for the victims of her heinous abuse. 😭

I suspect LDS leadership wanted this story to go away as fast as possible. It wouldn’t be surprising if some of those teens’ grandfathers were LDS elders. 😒 *SMH*.

FWIW: LDS missionaries must refer to the Registry to avoid us terribly scary registrants. I have often been in my front yard or even on my stoop, reading a book, when they have walked by …. speaking to others but never stopping to speak to me or even make eye contact. 🙄 Maybe their magical underwear would burst into flames if they spoke to me?? 😳😬
