UK: People convicted of a sex offense may have ‘danger warnings’ stamped on passports and driving licences

Labour is calling for the change

People convicted of a sex offense may have a ‘danger warning’ stamped on their passports and drivers licences, it has been reported.

Labour MP Sarah Champion is calling on the DVLA and the passport office to mark the files of 100,000 people who are listed on the registry as having a sex offense conviction.

The MP for Rotherham hopes the change will close a loophole whereby paedophiles change their names so that crimes do not show up during Disclosure and Barring Service checks to work with children and vulnerable adults, The Mirror reports.

By logging passports and licences of people with a past conviction for a sexual offense, the “danger” alert would be flagged up each time someone changed their name.

Former shadow abuse prevention minister Ms Champion said: “They are slipping under the radar with devastating consequences. If the name-change process was joined up it would stop the people on the registry from successfully receiving a DBS check.”

I bet there will be one group exempt from this. They tend to sport big beards, and the UK calls them “Asians.” I recall one case about a couple of years ago where one of them was let off scot-free from the crime because his wife did not speak English.

Doesn’t every country have a unique number fot everyone. (Ie ssn in the US) That follows everyone around even if they change their name?

“They are slipping under the radar with devastating consequences.”

Well, I for one, would demand to see these devastating consequences verified and quantified.

If this can’t be done, and I don’t think it can be done, this new and foolish law should be soundly defeated.

Best Wishes, James I (That has an Ex-Wife in London that I can’t visit anyway. She keeps asking and I keep saying there’s no way I’m flying to London)

Labour, FFS. I’m a lifelong Democrat voter and I realize that most registry laws in the US have been championed by the GOP but i feel there’s been a marked sea change in the past 10 years in the US and England. It’s the effect of “Me Too” and the continued rise of a specific brand of feminism in left-leaning politics. I’m just continually disappointed by the parties I used
to support. It’s like we’ve gone from “good cop bad cop” politics to “bad cop worse cop” politics. One party says “these are irredeemable predators and the public needs to be warned” and the other party just says “yes but shouldn’t we also take away all their rights too.”

What the hell is wrong with the Labour Party under Keir Starmer? Jeremy Corbyn would’ve never allowed something like this to be called for.

Once again, only registrants are a danger to the public. Drug dealers, home invaders, drunk drivers, armed robbers, etc., pose no threat to public safety.

Bloody Hell adding more nations to the stamping of people’s documents. History is being repeated and nobody gives a damn!! This 2021 where’s the Enlightenment and progress of society in the United States and United Kingdom. Both countries are bloody duds.

“Congratulations Mr. xxxx, you have been hired. We just need to make a copy of your license for our records and you can start tomorrow!”

My question is do they do that for murderers and other people who commit violent acts?

Well, that’s interesting. Not just individuals with an offense involving a minor, but ALL individuals convicted of a sexual offense?
Speaking of name changes, are we sure that her birth name wasn’t actually Chris Smith?
