And now we wait for someone to throw in an amendment that excludes anyone for this if they previously stole some candy when they were 9 (like several states have already done)

I don’t think this Bill will ever see the light of day in current form. But for the sake of argument, assume it passes as written. Why offer an additional $32.5k per year on the registry – on top of the $65k per year in confinement – if it’s not punitive?

Heartwarming that a politician would introduce a bill like that. I wish it extended to the endless Tier bumping.

In 2020, I was bumped from Tier 1 to Tier 3 in CA (228.2 code violation), 29 years after the crime, and the shift directly resulted in loss of income: I had to immediately resign from my family business and literally distance myself from the business site. Not to mention I lost a roommate who rented a bedroom in my place.

I was bumped for no other reason than waking up on Jan 1 2020. Literally not a speeding ticket in almost 30 years.

When has an ultra-conservative State like Kentucky ever done anything for or about Wrongful Convictions by choice? They have spent my whole life demanding they never happen, except on the rare occasion when they are forced to. Then they argue against every single penny that the wrongfully convicted is awarded, until forced to pay. The whole while they suggest that the conviction was proper, and even if he wasn’t guilty of this, we’re sure he is guilty of something else!

I fear that, we are turning (more?) into a Nation were guilt and innocence has less and less to do with what a person does, and more and more into who you are. Example:

Former Representative Gaetz is EXACTLY as guilty as Trump says he is? If Trump continues to demand he is innocent of all allegations, then he is. If Trump were to “determine” he is guilty of some, all, more than all, of these claims, then he is? Maybe not in a court of law, but in the court of public opinion?

This program, while on the surface is necessary and right, will be used in this process? Loyal and useful people were, “Wrongly convicted by the weaponized Justice department”… and need to be compensated for this injustice! Others were either properly convicted of SOME of the things the State KNOWS THEY DID, or perhaps have (or should have!) been properly convicted of enough other things in the past, they get nothing!

Standard practice when criminal regimes take over, clearing out the prisons. The useful will be paid to be of use, all others will get what the get, probably nothing… or worse. This is one of the ways the regime keeps people on board during this process…”Your loved one was obviously a victim of the weaponized Justice system, and should be compensated for it… but those other people, not them! We all know they are guilty of far more than they were convicted of!”
