Virginia lawmakers introduce many bad ideas, but they also wisely dispense with a good proportion of them. One of those that has escaped the ax comes from state Sen. Ryan McDougle, and would establish a supplemental sex-offender registry.
The supplemental registry, which would be published on the State Police website, would include the names of persons who committed various offenses between 1980 and 1994. Full OpEd Piece
Yes violate the constitutional protected against ex post facto punishment and beat your chest at the same time claiming a victory against an imagined threat. Way to go McDougle!
“…It would include the location and nature of the offense, and the offender’s date of birth — but no mug shots or other identifying information.”
Interesting. As noxious as this is, it’s much less oppressive than the 290 PC law we have here in California (let alone the supplementary legislation of the many subjacent communities like Carson). So, in an ostensibly “liberal”, “left coast” state we have long-ago enacted more reactionary regulations than only being contemplated in a state like Virginia – bastion of progressive thinking that we know it to be.
More evidence for me that this is not a left/right problem but a fear/ignorance problem that anyone can fall prey to regardless of political persuasion.
You know its sad that the USA has came to this state of affairs with the sex registry that they have to reap off of others misfortunes just to glorify in there great government and there pride and ego. They make tons of money off the sex restraint and also get funding for all this so they are in a sense playing a shell game with all this. The bible says one reaps what they sow and if government wants to downgrade offenders, especially the sex offender, than its wrong. I am an offender but to this day I don’t know who I offend. Cannot government see this registry as panic at its best.
So what’s wrong with these registry’s and sub registry’s, they just compound things even more.
