General News

Another Eye-Popping Statistic

Earlier this year, I talked to the press spokesperson for a state senator who was proposing a new ban targeting those on the state’s sex offender registry. I asked her about the purpose of the legislation–why focus on this group of ex-offenders? The question seemed to catch her off guard: “Oh! Well these people reoffend at very high rates compared with others!” she replied. Full Article

Wow! That is an amazing statistical find!

20 years of solid data, but fear mongering reigns supreme. Will SCOTUS admit their wrong doings?

So does continued support for a registry/tiered registry.

What is the percentage of re offenders for 75 year old guys that have been on the regerstery for 35 years and not reoffended ?

They’re far more likely to die than to “re-offend.”

I think now is the time we flood her office with phone calls and send her office e-mails educating her on the issue. I have. Will you? Show her there is a unity and we will not allow another Runner to ride this wave.

Copy all the other senators, too. She is powerless without the others.

I think there are several thousand registrants in that district. If only we could reach out to them and their families

So, just spitballing here, how much does a billboard cost? I mean, if a disgruntled wife can call out a cheating husband with it, I am sure that we can display the facts about recidivism compared to DUI, robbery, assault. It not only reaches registrants, but the general population.
My two cents.

They can be expensive depending on where they’re located.

It might, however, be worth it for the possible exposure it could generate.

Imagine getting that on the news.

I’ll donate the graphics work if you decide to do it!

I can start a gofundme account to raise money for it or something like mailing postcards to registrants and families.

Would love your thoughts, please comment.x
