I was unable to attend my child’s middle school graduation and will be missing out on high school graduation for the same reasons. Keeping my eye on this one!

@Detained in America – Did you request attendance at the graduations you mentioned? If so, what is the school district? A lawsuit may be necessary to change their policy.

A parallel to this quote in the article:

The lawsuit notes that state Penal Code Section 626.81 makes it a misdemeanor for a parent who is a registered sex offender to enter school grounds without “lawful business” and “written permission” from the school.

But “that section does not grant authority to school officials to deny access to school grounds to parents” who are registered sex offenders, the suit states.

The parallel is this… registrants have a lot of rules to abide by, but denying any registrant access to be removed from the registry contradicts the California Constitution, Article 1, Section 1 “inalienable right to pursue and obtain privacy.” Registration is about privacy, or there lack of. No other law is capable outright denying the pursuit of privacy as there is standing law that prevents such as it is an inalienable right.

I hope this parallel helps with any registrant who’s pursuit to be able to be removed from the registry has been denied (or implicitly denied) access can utilize this same train of thought.

      New Person:

We can all make solid argument why these laws are unjust/unconstitutional; however, they get around every argument by way of the public safety argument.

there is no soap box to get on when an overarching argument can be made to negate any law, especially when EVERYONE wants it that way!

  3. G4Change

Good luck, Janice and all! I pray for your victory in this matter.

What a ridiculous country. These parents could have spent the $5000-10,000 that was needed to file this lawsuit to take the whole family to Disney World for a vacation, or donate to good causes. Instead, money has to be wasted due to pure ignorance, hatred, as well as plain stupidity from politicians and prosecuters.

Can someone in California email ‘state Sen. Connie Leyva, D-Chino’ some reading material such as that Slate article which shows that what she is doing is actually destroying America?

    • Lake County

Who told you that Janice had charged $5000-10,000 that was needed to file this lawsuit?

      • Janice Bellucci

The plaintiff in this case has not paid and will not pay legal fees or related costs.

  5. USA

This is terrible! I truly support the man. He paid his debt to society! Now, what about the convicted gang members, drug dealers, prostitutes, wife beaters and murderers? I guess they can go on campus? His taxes go towards subsidizing the school? I think society needs to change! Rehabilitation is alive and well. This lawsuit will prevail!
