Florida authorities say an inmate who killed his cellmate last month while awaiting trial for killing another cellmate in 2015 is now in solitary confinement.
The Panama City News Herald reports 21-year-old Frederick Patterson III said he killed his 82-year-old cellmate Arthur Williams on Jan. 15, and told correctional officers that “there’s one less child molester on the streets.”

Patterson, a convicted burglar, was sentenced Thursday to life in prison for killing 45-year-old Scott Collinsworth, a convicted robber, in the Apalachee Correctional Institution.
Patterson now faces a first-degree murder charge. Williams, who allegedly tried to lure a 9-year-old boy into his car, had been ruled incompetent 10 days earlier and was being held in the Jackson County Correctional Facility awaiting transfer to a mental facility.
Asked about Williams’ death, Patterson told investigators he and Williams had been cellmates in maximum security for about two weeks and he had planned to kill him the entire time.
And why was a mentally incompetent elderly man placed in a cell with a man who has a history of murdering his cellmates?
I sure a hell hope there is somebody who has grounds to sue on behalf of that elderly man and take the entire system to task. (Or at the very least, push for the guards who arranged this murder to face justice for their crime)
Why the actual f*** was Williams not placed in protective custody? Am I missing something here? Jail staff had to know exactly what could happen. It’s almost like it was intentional…surely, as professionals, as public servants, they wouldn’t dream of such a thing, right? /sarcasm
I hope Williams’ family sues.

Wow. Frederick Patterson III. Such an esteemed name, I am sure he is of well-bred stock and a member of one Florida’s most esteemed families. And nothing screams “success” louder than a giant tattoo across one’s neck, eh?
I’ll bet Frederick Patterson I regularly abused Frederick Patterson II, who took it out on a young Frederick Patterson III. The upshot to this story might be that the cycle of abuse will end if this POS serves out the sentence he deserves and dies in prison.
Chicken pecker CO’s ! this punk killed this 80 year old man and looks like are real bad ass ,friggin wimp , I would be willing to bet that the others he killed were easy targets as well , but the real problem is the institution and the CO’s are the real murders here , you bet they new , but you will never prove they set Mr Williams up . But proving they are at fault should be easy enough , the problem is he age its not likely anyone cares like with many RC’s . The truth be told we don’t hear about but a few of these PEOPLE , most of the time its ruled suicide , on just an altercation , fact is that CO’s set this kind of thing all the time , EVERYDAY ! its their favorite pass time sitting on their over paid lazy ass’s screwing with RC’s , let there be no mistake about it Mr Williams died in fear with the sound of cons and CO’s laughing and yelling , RIP MR Williams
I forwarded this to the Florida Action Committee, suggesting they try to track the victim’s family or otherwise try to represent him to sue the jail. Hope they are willing and can find a way to do that.
Ya but people like him get back on the streets with no registry. I think I would feel safer (for myself, my kids, or my wife) with a serial rapist next door instead of guys like this.
