IA: Higher reimbursement rates now available for sex offender nursing home units

Source: radioiowa.com 6/6/34

A new law requires the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services to come up with a formula to raise the Medicaid reimbursement rate for Iowa nursing homes that accept registered sex offenders.

The higher reimbursement would only be available to nursing homes that establish a separate unit for sex offenders. “This is a growing need in our state,” Representative Joel Fry, a Republican from Osceola, said during House debate of the plan. “I’ve been working on this for a number of years, so we will hopefully come back with a rate that we could house these offenders at.”

Well it is interesting that they’re talking about creating a separate unit for just sex offenders, that unit or Wing or facility will be targeted by the angry mob public. Which again, we become segregated. Well some states won’t allow us to even have residency in a nursing home, Iowa is set to make more money off of us because they say we are more dangerous. It’s just plain and simple that the registry has to go, as we have become a separate class of citizens now.

Hmm, wonder how much controversy that will create in the care home? Who wagers the nurses who get that wing will most likely have drawn the short straw and be ridiculed by their coworkers. The stories they could come back with of how they would tease patients or not provide care. Yeah, I’ve experienced it first hand when a doctor just stopped seeing me and demanded I see someone else for routine exams. Yes, the registry is punishment, it is 1000% punitive, abolish the damn thing, nothing less!

So, lemme see here, medicaid reimbursement rate? What is that exactly? Is/Are there rate/rates for others who have criminal convictions too that differ from those who have none? How is that supposed to work anyway, e.g., the family reimburse or what? I don’t see this being constitutional unless it applies across the board to different criminals or differing medical conditions. IOWA = Idiots Out Walking Around

And 03 SCOTUS said a market wasn’t being created.

In California, can Registrants get a Section 8 Housing Voucher?? 🤷🏻‍♂️

Rep. Fry you’ve been working on the issue for years and still call them offenders, when most haven’t offended in decades but that doesn’t fit your agenda. How about allowing them a place to live during their twilight years and protecting them from employees who may commit a sex crime against them. Stop wearing I’m with stupid t-shirts going after the low hanging fruit and try something different for a change.

Back in 2018 two CNA from a facility in Iowa took two patients and had sex with them. They were arrested, given a year, and if they were successful their record would be cleared. How the heck is that fair?
