FL: Residents want ‘clustered’ sex offenders out of Tampa neighborhood

TAMPA, Fla. – After more than two years of delays, Tampa city council members on Thursday finally received a report on the housing of sexual predators who are currently ‘clustered’ in the V.M. Ybor neighborhood.

“Commencing in 2009-2010, multiple properties on Nebraska Avenue underwent rapid transformations, becoming high-density hubs for newly released sex offenders, predators, and felons. This resulted in a concerning surge in V.M. Ybor’s sex offender and predator population. Despite initial opposition, the situation persists, prompting the need for critical intervention.

One glaring issue is the Department of Corrections’ ongoing directive to channel felons predominantly into a select few underserved Tampa communities, regardless of their home county or state. Moreover, the current occupancy levels at various rooming houses directly contradict the Florida Fire Prevention Code’s “Rooming House” definition (maximum occupancy of 16). Additionally, there is ambiguity regarding the classification of these properties as “hotels/dormitories” as per the Fire Department’s current assessment.

The report concludes that restricting sex offenders to certain areas does not appear to prevent crime, but that housing restrictions appear instead to “add barriers to successful reentry, increase likelihood of recidivism, do not stop offending (anywhere), and add considerable burden for police (who are already understaffed).

Obviously clustering of sex offenders has no positive effect. But the article makes no mention of whether the area has seen an increase in sexual assaults with the increasing density of sex offenders. I’d bet no increase has been seen. If not, why are the locals so concerned about safety? My guess is that sex the offenders make pretty good neighbors.

I could snap my fingers and fix “clusters” in 1 second. The perfect solution is to destroy the thoroughly idiotic Sex Offense Registries. That solves the problem immediately. The dumb “neighbors” could then relax.

But since Registries exist, I’m so very glad that they cause “residents” so much grief. I hope it keeps them awake at night. The Registries delivered that for them. And I promise, whether they are smart enough to know it or not, that right in that very area it has delivered them a lot more danger and hate. They probably see it every day. Just look around. That is what Registries do everywhere.

Well that’s a “cluster f**k” of a problem…I say move them to the Book family compounds where father and daughter live.

Hey Tampa, it was your own laws that created this “cluster.” You reap what you sow. Looks to me like they have two choices. Get rid of residency restrictions, or the crybabies can deal with it.

I think the reason that they did not post anything about an ‘increase in sex offenses’, or crime in general, occurring in that area is (obviously) there has been NO such increase. If there had been anything, even just one sex offense, they would have blasted that as the headline. In reading the article, I kept waiting for some stats as to the “increase in crime” or something that had actually happened. But nope, nothing. Not a word.

“Complaints from residents range from general safety to decreasing property values and a deteriorating historic district’

Somebody is fi….ibing. The old Doc did a little bit of research, and found thru Zillow that the median price of a home in Ybor City went from $58,000 in 2016 to close to a whopping $300,000 today.

“Commencing in 2009-2010, multiple properties on Nebraska Avenue underwent rapid transformations, becoming high-density hubs for newly released sex offenders, predators, and felons. This resulted in a concerning surge in V.M. Ybor’s sex offender and predator population.”

The article begins with concerns about “sex offenders.” Then they start talking about predators & felons. Then it’s “sex offenders & predators.” I guess those groups aren’t mutually exclusive anymore

The report concludes that restricting sex offenders to certain areas does not appear to prevent crime, but that housing restrictions appear instead to “add barriers to successful reentry, increase likelihood of recidivism, do not stop offending (anywhere), and add considerable burden for police (who are already understaffed).”

And there you have it. A complete refutation of the entire premise of what bothers the nosy Karens and Kenneths.

Interesting choice of words “cluster” or “clustering,” now isn’t it?. They make it sound as though they’re gonna send a seasoned plumber down with an industrial-sized plunger to excavate the pipes or something.

” We don’t want them in our neighborhood, let’s kick them out.” ” How dare they live in clusters and the authorities must do something.” Citizens have to live somewhere and shouldn’t be forced to live under a bridge or in the woods due to inhumane residency restrictions as well as the registry insanity. Earth to Tampa, you reap what you sow so suck it up buttercup. By the way where is the outrage on the cop in Clearwater who sexually assaulted a tourist.
