I carry a Byrna SD pistol with me at all times, even in public. It looks like a normal firearm, but it is not a firearm. Anyone with a felony can posses and keep on them a Byrna or similar system [not true in 5 states]. It’s a C02 / compressed gas and projectile system. I wear it in a holster in public so I can’t be accused of concealed carry.
Best of all, they are legal [for people without a felony] for self defense in every State, including California and New York, the states with the most insane gun laws.
Ok, a word of warning about the ‘self defense’ page. Unless something has changed, felons are not allowed to own a sword in many states, and California specifically. Even then, even inside of your home even when you own it. Be very very very careful, because if you are not in provable eminent threat against your life. Grabbing even a kitchen knife means you can end up in prison anyway. However the wasp spray as a pepper spray alternative is brilliant.
My son is a PFR with a misdemeanor charge, never been fond of guns, although our home has security, I think it’s time we look into some type of firearm for protection, just scary how others use the registry to gain info and take the law into their own hands, we’ve had vandalism due to the public registry, so it’s time we take more precautions. Me , and i expect many are torn between the risk of having a gun for defence , or not having one because of the risk of going to prision if you do . And then there is the real deal that if you have a gun and need to use it , You might as well shoot to kill ,, because it means a life sentence for you . No warning shots . or “put up you hands or I’ll shoot. “

The AEA air guns are top of the line and just as effective as a real gun and is perfectly legal for felons to own. Now this is the tricky part the AEA air gun becomes an actual firearm do to the velocity of the projectile, I’m not sure the actual velocity but you can goole it, and the projectile can’t be bigger then 9mm I think 40-50 are considered firearms. The CO2 air cartridges can be filled to control the velocity of the projectile and you can switch out different types of ammunition from slugs to buckshots. These things are the real deal people in the south use them to hunt big game.
As for actually firearms if you’re on the registry and your tier 2-3 your probably a felon and unable to own one. BUT if your ever in a self defense situation and forced to use one just know felon in possession of a firearm is not a strikeable offense under the California 3 strike law, you will do time but you won’t get life just for possession of a firearm.
It is legal for ex-felons to own pepper spray in nearly all the U.S.
Some states allow the use of stun guns and tazers as well for in home defense for ex-felons also.
Check your local laws and talk with your local police as they vary from state to state.
Do your homework so you can be sure what you can and cannot use.
Nose, ears, eyes, throat, groan. No amount of weight lifting and training creates a shield for these areas. The latter two will incapacitate someone for a long time.

It’s a small thing but it could help… install motion sensor cameras around your property. Its not just direct physical attacks… we are also at a high risk from vandalism and arson and I think we are more likely to be victims of such non confrontational attacks than being physically assaulted. I remember when the only way the public could know about you is if they went down to a police station and looked at a CD on the department computer. The days of living the life of a normal human being ended around 1995 when they started sharing the info with the public. When they took it online with website access, they might as well have come out to your place and painted a giant bullseye on your front door.
